Fishing Etiquette
« on: August 31, 2013, 04:21:46 PM »
How do you politely tell someone they're being a douchebag? Today one guy had 8 rods set up taking up half the fishing area. While me and 4 other guys split the other half. I came close to just going in between his rods and just casting, hoping to tangle our lines on purpose. Why are people so stupid?

Have had the same happen to me. Earlier this year I woke up at sun up for striper fishing, was the only one on the beach. Only had 2 rods and they were tight together. Then a group of 7 or 8 Mexicans come with over 15 rods and fish 10 yards down me. With 1000s of yards of open beach. Amazing

As the old saying goes "The early bird gets the worm" The early fisherman gets the spot. With that being said he could have tightened up for you guys to fish. My advise wake up earlier  :P

Eight rods is a bit too much. I would have kept tangling his lines, then cutting them to untangle the mess. You would only be retying one line, and while he was retying multiple lines, one of your buddies could tangle with his other ones. He would get the message. Just a suggestion.

Just cast between his lines.  He'll get the idea. or cast parallel to the shore and snag all his lines. lol

Some people just don't get it. Was fishing the hook last yr while on vacation. I was already set up, lines in and everything; this a-hole walked up and set up literally right on top of me. Every cast he crossed over my lines. I was furious to say the least!!!  I DID say something, as nice as I could but I wasn't letting him think he could just do crap like that. He on the other hand used a few other choice words and started to get a lil feisty for my taste so to avoid a conflict, I just pulled my lines and left it alone. The other guys fishing next to me however didn't let it go and ripped into him about it. All he needed to do was fish the other side of me. I agree with Al, the earlier the better and hope that this a-hole or others like him aren't around.

Eight rods says it all, just an A-hole.  I usually strike up a conversation and tell the idiot about where I fished earlier and caught alot of fish, which of course never happened.  I enthusiastically give up every bad unproductive spot I know and just give plain bad advice.  I also, try to direct the a-hole to the more expensive tackle stores.  If I am gassy, I always talk and rip just to really give them a sense of how their bs reaks of crap.

I understand that he could of been courteous and moved over, but he didnt have to. Theres been multiple times Ive gone to one of my spots and someones beat me there. My fault i didnt get there early enough 5hrug

When surf fishing you have miles of beach so even if one spot is taken you can easily move to another. When you're on a dock that is only 80 feet wide or so and you take up half of it by yourself using 8 rods, that's a bit much. There's a reason that they added a law in the mid 2000s that you're only allowed to use 3 rods in freshwater.

I agree with the kid, 8 rods on a dock is just selfish. Legal, yes, but the way I was brought up , wrong. I guess this guy had selfish, I deserve everything, F everyone but me, and that's what I'm teaching my kid, type of parents.

Why is there a problem with fishing multiple rods by yourself? I don't see an issue with it at all. If i want to fish multiple baits at different ranges from the beach I need multiple rods. If I got to the beach before you and had at 20 rods its my right, there is no law against it.The early bird gets the worm. I call it increasing my chances. Please tell me what you believe the issue is?

best way to tell them they are a douchebag is not to sugarcoat it. Start out by callin them Gil, or Mr. Massengill, or just go right to douchebag. Ask them if they actually do hold the deed to the spot you are fishing. They'll get the hint quickly.

Or you could tangle their lines which to me sounds pretty stupid for all involved.

Stand up to a bully or learn to like vinegar and water.
