Jetty is excited to announce that the 7th Annual Clam Jam is slated to be held on October 12, 2013 on Taylor Avenue in Beach Haven! This contest was established in 2007 as a means to bring the community together. It immediately became a post-season tradition, and excitement is swelling as the East Coast waves do the same.
Well over 250 surfers local to the Long Beach Island area are invited to participate, but the contest is limited to a maximum of 100 slots. On September 26, the official selection party will be held at the Black Whale Bar & Fish House. As is the annual ritual, the participating surfer's name will be written on clam shells and will be entered into one of two drafts dependent on age. The names are then drawn at random to create the teams for the bracket. The winners of this event are rewarded with serious bragging rights and the hand-carved Clam Jam Trophy by Joel Dramis.
The contest date is largely contingent on Mother Nature. If wave and weather conditions are not suitable on October 12, the Clam Jam may be held on any subsequent Saturday or Sunday. This requires communication and organization skills of the highest order, and all involved are up to the challenge. Stay connected to jettylife.com and the official Facebook account (facebook.com/thejettylife) for updates as the contest date draws near.
The Clam Jam also provides an invaluable opportunity for businesses to promote their services after the rush of the summer season. There are many levels of sponsorships available for interested parties, including a logo placement on the collectible t-shirt. Further information regarding sponsorships is available on online (jettylife.com/2013/08/24/7th-annual-jetty-clam-jam/), or the media kit may be downloaded directly at
