PB Bones & Albies 10/3/13
« on: October 04, 2013, 04:17:54 PM »
I went out on another bonito/false albacore special yesterday.  With about 50 anglers on board today, I was lucky to get close to my preferred spot at the rail.

Captain Dave wasted no time in passing up the closer inshore spots and went right to the place they had them on Tuesday.  We stopped at one point where a lot of dolphins were seen.  We tried for a bit with no luck and continued on.

Calm seas and winds, a flat ocean, and clear water made for some tough catching.  However,  I did manage 5 bonito and a hefty false albacore.  Two skipjacks and a chicken dolphin were also caught on the boat, with one of the skippies winning the pool.  High hook was 9 bonito.

Overall it was a great day, but a bit frustrating at times as well.  A little more cloud cover or some ripples on the water might have made it a fantastic day.  We had fish next to the boat swimming in the slick, but the super clear conditions made them hard to catch.  Over and over again we would watch them chase our lures only to see them turn away at the last second.

These fish are there and I'm looking forward to getting out after them at least one more time.  The Cock Robin will be running special trips on Monday 10/7 and Wednesday 10/9, while the Queen Mary has added another trip on Thursday 10/10.

See you out there.  t^

Its better to sit in a boat and think about God, than to sit in a church and think about fishing.

I didn't get any pics of me with fish.  Here's one from the Queen Mary website of the pool winning skipjack.

 fngr   ;D

They chum with a very thin soup of bunker and other oily fish.  Fresh or frozen spearing, smelt, rainfish, etc. are added to the slick to spice it up.
