Another unsettled week…starting to sound like a broken record, with a roller coaster of a week ahead.  The week will start off dry, then chances of showers (possible snow showers across northern/northwestern areas) on Tuesday Night through Wednesday and then clearing out on Wednesday Night and then chances of rain and showers on Thursday through Friday Night.  The chances earlier in the week are lower than towards the end of the week.  Unfortunately, Halloween Night and Friday have the highest chances of rain, anywhere from 50%-60% right now.  Originally, chances were much higher, then they lessened about 5 days out and now increased some.  It all depends on the timing of the front and low pressure across the middle of the country.  None of the days this week are a complete washout.  I will have updates by Tuesday or Wednesday on the exact timing of Thursday’s Rain.  High temperatures will be seasonal, even above normal towards the end of with average overnight lows.  High temperatures will be in the mid 50’s to low 60’s this week, with warmer temperatures coming towards the end of the week with a moderate southerly flow.  Overnight lows will range from the low 30’s across northern areas to the low 60’s later in the week across coastal areas.  The southerly flow could bring some dew points into the upper 50’s and low 60’s, bringing some moderate humidity.  Water conditions look good with some moderate to gusty winds during the through Wednesday Night.  Thursday could bring winds from high pressure of the coast, creating a moderate to strong southerly flow.  Cautious to Hazardous conditions with Small Craft Advisories for south winds 30-40 knots and seas 4-11 feet at 8 seconds, will persist through Friday before subsiding for the weekend.  Surf conditions will be good through Thursday before starting to deteriorate, echoing the water conditions.  Thursday and Friday could see southerly winds in excess of 30 knots, rough surf and wave heights 2-6 feet with a 3-7 foot south-southeast swell at 8 seconds.  Water temperatures are cooling off some more with rivers and bays in the mid to upper 50’s, surf temperatures in the mid to upper 50’s, inshore ocean waters in the mid 50’s to low 60’s and midshore to offshore waters in the low to mid 60’s.  UV Index will be Low to Moderate 1-3/15.

High pressure will briefly build across the area late Sunday Night into early Monday before another mostly dry cold front moves through the area late on Monday.  High pressure will then again, build across the Eastern Seaboard Tuesday into Wednesday, before building offshore on Thursday.  A warm front should lift north of the area on Thursday as low pressure moves into the Great Lakes Region.  A cold front is expected to affect the area late next week as the low pressure moves into Eastern Canada.  Another frontal boundary is expected Saturday Night into Sunday

The weekend could start off with some chances of rain/showers on Saturday clearing out into the overnight.  Sunday looks dry and sunny.  High temperatures will be in the upper 50’s  to upper 60’s with overnight lows in the upper 30’s to the upper 40’s.  Water and surf conditions look good right now.  If, this system slows at all rain chances and winds could be pushed off into Saturday or Sunday.  The middle of the week will tell better.

Have a great week!

Good morning!  A more mild start, but still cold for many areas this morning.  Sunny with some clouds, increasing today into the overnight.  Dry conditions with no rain in the forecast today.  High temperatures will be in the 50’s with cooler 50’s across northern areas and upper 50’s for coastal areas.  Overnight lows will depend on your location with low to mid 40’s inland, mid 40’s to low 50’s for coastal and southern areas and mid 30’s across northern portions of the state.  Winds will be light inland out of the northeast/east at 5-10 mph.  Coastal areas will have more moderate to gusty winds out of the northeast at 10-15 mph before becoming easterly and diminishing to 5-10 mph.

Water conditions are rated good, however some moderate to gusty winds to 20 knots will prevail out of the northeast  today and then east later today.  This moderate onshore flow could increase seas from 2-4 feet.  Raritan Bay will have north winds 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots becoming northeast 5-10 knots late this morning and this afternoon, then southeast and south at 5 knots tonight with seas 1-2 feet subsiding to 1 foot and then 1 foot or less.  Barnegat Bay will have northeast winds 10-15 knots becoming east-northeast then southeast at 5-10 knots tonight with seas 1 foot or less.  Delaware Bay will have northeast winds 10-15 knots becoming southeast at 5-10 knot tonight with seas 2-3 feet subsiding to 1-2 feet tonight.  Inshore ocean waters will have northeast winds 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots becoming east tonight before shifting southeast then south and diminishing to 5-10 knots tonight with seas 2-4 feet subsiding to 2-3 feet tonight at 8seconds.  Midshore to Offshore waters will have northeast winds becoming east at 10-20 knots with seas 2-4 feet at 8 seconds.

Surf conditions are good to ok.  Gusty onshore winds will increase the surf some.  Winds will be northeast becoming more easterly tonight at 10-15 knots with some gusts to 20 knots.  Surf will be normal to rough with wave heights 1-3 feet with a 2-3 foot easterly/east-northeast/east-southeast swell at 8 seconds.  Surf temperatures are in the low to mid 50’s.  UV Index is Moderate at 3/15.

Have a good day!

Good morning!  Cold to mild start depending where you are with temperatures ranging from the low 30’s to upper 50’s across the state.  Cloudy with some sun mixed in.  It will remain mostly cloudy for most of the state.  Northern/northwestern NJ will see a decrease in clouds today and more sun.  Eastern Counties will also see some fog late tonight into Thursday Morning. There is a chance of isolated or scattered showers today mainly across southern and eastern counties.  Some showers are already moving in to Southwestern NJ.  High temperatures will be in the low 60’s with overnight lows into the upper 40’s to low 50’s inland, low to mid 50’s along the coast and mid 40’s across northern areas.  Winds will be calm out of the southwest/south today at 5-10 mph.

Water conditions are good today.  Winds are much calmer for today.  Raritan Bay will have southwest winds becoming south tonight around 5 knots with seas 1 foot or less.  Barnegat Bay will have variable becoming southwest and then variable again at 5-10 knots with seas 1 foot or less.  Delaware Bay will have southwest winds becoming south tonight at 5 knots with seas 1-2 feet.  Inshore ocean waters will have southwest winds 5-10 knots with seas around 2 feet at 12 seconds.  Midshore to Offshore waters will have varying southwest winds 7-12 knots with seas 2 feet at 12 seconds.

Surf and beach conditions are good.  Winds will be southwest/south at 5-12 knots.  Surf is normal with wave heights 1-3 feet with a 2 foot east-southeast swell at 12 seconds.  Water temperatures are in the low to mid 50’s.  UV Index will be Low to Moderate at 1-3/15.

Rain chances are possible for tomorrow, with rain earlier across northwestern, western and northern NJ during the day.  Other areas will not see any showers until later Thursday Night.  Winds are still forecast to begin increasing tomorrow during the day, with conditions deteriorating into the night.  Winds will increase in excess of 30 knots with seas to 8 feet.  Small Craft Advisories will be issued at some point today or tomorrow.

Have a great day!

Happy Halloween!  Cloudy with some fog in Central Western parts of the state and more of a mild start this morning with 40’s to 60’s.  Today will continue to be cloudy, maybe some sun at times.  Western and Northern NJ areas will have chances of showers all day today with chances of rain for the entire state tonight.  Eastern and Southern NJ areas will not see rain until later tonight, most likely after midnight, however western and northern areas, especially Northwestern NJ will see some isolated or scattered showers all day today with chances increasing during the day with the bulk of any rain later tonight closer to 11 P.M.  So, Trick or Treating will not be a washout for the state, just not ideal.  With a southerly flow setting up, temperatures will be more mild compared to last week.  High temperatures will be in the upper 60’s for all areas except northern/northwestern NJ will only see low 60’s.  Overnight lows will only get down into the mid 50’s to low 60’s…extremely mild for the end of October!  Dew points will be much higher than normal, making the humidity moderate and sticky for this time of year.  Winds will start off calm and increase today, especially along the coast.  South winds will gust 10-15 mph inland with 25-30 mph along the coast.

Water conditions will begin to deteriorate today due to a strong southerly flow and interacting fronts across the area.  Today will start off with calm conditions then increasing winds and building seas.  By this afternoon conditions will be cautious and by tonight into tomorrow hazardous.  All coastal waters, except Middle and Upper Delaware Bay and Delaware River will have Gale Warnings in effect for Friday.  Middle Delaware Bay to Delaware River will have Small Craft Advisories.  Raritan Bay will have south winds around 5 knots increasing 10-15 knots this afternoon then gusts to 25 knots tonight before increasing to 35 knots later tonight with seas 1 foot or less increasing to 2 feet by tonight.  Barnegat Bay will have south-southwest winds 5-10 knots increasing to 10-15 knots this afternoon through the overnight before increasing tomorrow with seas 1 foot or less.  Delaware Bay will have south winds 5-10 knots increasing to 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots this afternoon then winds to 35 knots by tonight with seas 2-3 feet  increasing to 2-4 feet.  Inshore ocean waters will have south winds 5-10 knots increasing to 15-20 knots with gusts to 25 knots this afternoon then winds to 35 knots by tonight with seas 2-4 feet building to 6-8 feet at 11 seconds today and 7 seconds tonight.  Midshore to Offshore waters will have south winds 5-10 knots increasing to 10-20 knots and then 30 knots by tonight with seas 2-3 feet increasing 7-10 feet by tonight at 11 seconds then 7 seconds.  Small Craft Advisories will likely replace the Gale Warnings and conditions will persist through Monday or so.  Excessively high winds and seas will only last tonight into Friday Night, before diminishing some, but not below SCA criteria.

Surf and beach conditions will be ok becoming cautious to hazardous tonight and tomorrow and cautious conditions may persist through Monday.   Winds from the south will start at 5-10 knots increasing to 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots then winds to 35 knots by tonight.  Surf is normal with wave heights 1-3 feet.  Surf will become rough with wave heights increasing to 2-4 feet and then 3-7 feet by tonight.  A southerly swell will increase to 7 feet tonight.  Surf temperatures are in the low to mid 50’s.  UV Index is Low to Moderate at 2-3/15.

Have a great Halloween!
