From (of all places) the Ocean County Police Blotter. ;D

"if you're a surf fisherman, today is the day you want to be at Island Beach State Park. People are catching lots of bass. Check out Grumpy's Bait and Tackle or Betty & Nicks to see a list of today's weigh-ins. Big day at the beach today."

It's been heating up from the Ocean Co surf since the weekend.  A little better each day.  It's pretty much exploded yesterday from Lavalette to IBSP.  B&Ns and Grumpys each had 50+ weigh-ins for the day.
I got out to the beach before sunrise and started throwing metals w/ teasers.  I had some tackle failures that really hurt my numbers.  Lost 3 good fish and lost time retying I should have been catching.  I ended up with 5 fish up to 30in.  Saw a lot of fish caught ranging from shorts to 15lb+.  Bird action early on was crazy.  I think it would have been even better if not for the hard NW wind.  It made for tough fishing.
Things slowed down by noon and from what I hear it was quiet overnight.  But there's definitely a good body of fish in the area.

Fished the surf last night in Seaside Park from 7-9 and didn't get a hit or bump....Fished the Yellow SP minnow and Black Needlefish.....Awesome night with great water conditions.

Seems to me to be a day time thing right now with when these bass are feeding on the sandeels in the surf.

Dat moon was brite last night.

These fish were all FAT too.  Had a short that was maybe 26in, but felt to be over 10lb.  They have been feeding heavily for a few days now.

I was following Betty & Nicks FB page and it got pretty heated over there.  Guys there are tons of fishermen and women out right now and well I guess it has been crowded to say the least.  Please honor another guys spot.  There is 10 miles of beach with fish everywhere and as far as I was told this line of fish go up to Connecticut. It looks like the fish will be here for a while.

The sad things that I have heard are people (and I use that term loosely) are catching shorts and skates and leaving them on the beach above the high water mark to die.  If you catch a fish you are not going to keep put it back.  I get so mad when I see an angler kicking a fish back into the water instead of picking it up and returning it to the sea.

Sorry for the rant but this happens every year and this year seems the worse.

Happy Catching

Paul

Fished again last night around 8:00pm in Seaside Park....Very heavy surf and cold.

Fished the SP Minnow and White Needelfish.....The Needelfish was in white and was the best with the heavy wind and surf.

I had one good fish on and lost in the wash....Not another hit the rest of the night.

These fish are feeding in the day light heavy....Fished every night this week and all I had was that one fish....Maybe the moon at night is the problem..... I don't know.

Well its the weekend and I'm sure these bass will take the next 2 days off....Then start feeding again on Monday Morning at 7am when I'm at the office.. rgmn
