NJ Fishing & Boating Weather Outlook Weekly Edition: Nov 25-29, 2013

So, as we move into the last week of November and Thanksgiving Week, the weather will be unsettled and a decent storm is expected, but overall the weather will not be bad.  Water conditions will not be th best until the end of the week into the weekend, but Monday and Tuesday may be ok.  The weather will start off cold and dry on Monday and early Tuesday Day followed by a low pressure system that will affect the area Tuesday Afternoon through early Thursday.   The track of the storm will really influence the effects, but right now the area is looking at rain with some warmer temperatures for most of the state, except northern and western parts of NJ.  By late Wednesday Night into early Thursday, colder air will move in and the low will clear out for Thanksgiving leaving sunny and dry conditions for Thanksgiving Weekend!  High temperatures will start out in the 30’s on Monday followed by upper 30’s to upper 50’s for Tuesday and Wednesday right now and then back into the 30’s and 40’s for Thanksgiving, Black Friday and the weekend.  Overnight lows will start off in the 20’s and 30’s and then range from the 30’s to the 50’s Tuesday before dropping again into the 20’s and 30’s for Wednesday and the end of the week.  Midweek temperatures could certainly change depending on the track and position of the low pressure system.  Winds will settle down for Monday and then increase Tuesday through Thursday before diminishing again for the end of the week.  Water conditions will vary all week by day and location, in general starting off cautious and improving some late on Monday and maybe parts of Tuesday before deteriorating on Tuesday and becoming cautious to hazardous late on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  Friday will see conditions improving through the weekend.  Surf and beach conditions will be good through late Tuesday and then will be cautious to hazardous through Friday.  Water temperatures are steady with rivers and bays in the mid to upper 40’s, inland ocean waters are in the low 50’s with midshore to offshore waters are in the mid to upper 50’s.  UV Index will be Low at 1-2/15.

A strong Canadian High Pressure system continues to move through the region and offshore on Monday.  A Gulf of Mexico low pressure system will develop and track northeast and intensify passing over or just east of the area on Wednesday.  Another Canadian High Pressure system will start building east on Thanksgiving Day and reach the Eastern Seaboard on the weekend.

The weekend looks dry and colder with good water and surf conditions.

Good morning!  COLD, but sunny with some clouds here or there this morning.  Current temperatures are in the single digits to upper 20’s and feeling even colder with wind chills factored in, nothing above freezing right now.  Sun will continue today with clouds increasing throughout the day into the night becoming mostly cloudy.  High temperatures will only be in the 30’s today with overnight lows back into the mid to upper 20’s inland, low 30’s along the coast and low 20’s across northern areas.  Winds will be much calmer than this weekend from the west at 5-10 mph inland with 10-15 mph along the coast.

Water conditions will improve today.  Inshore Gale Warnings have been cancelled and Small Craft Advisories from Little Egg Inlet to Cape May have been cancelled and north of there are set to expire at 9AM.  Offshore waters still have Gale Warnings for today.  Winds will subside by this afternoon with seas improving throughout the day.  Higher seas will be the main concern today.  Raritan Bay will have southwest winds 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots becoming 10 knots tonight with gusts to 20 knots and seas 1-2 feet improving to 1 foot or less by later this afternoon.  Barnegat Bay will have west-northwest winds 10-15 knots becoming southwest in the afternoon with seas around 1 foot then 1 foot or less.  Delaware Bay will have northwest winds 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots becoming southwest 5-10 knots this afternoon then 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots tonight with seas 2-3 feet subsiding to 1-2 feet by tonight.  Inshore ocean waters will have west to northwest winds 15-20 knots becoming west to southwest this afternoon and tonight at 5-10 knots then 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots with seas 2-3 feet at 5 seconds becoming 2-4 feet at 5 seconds tonight.  Midshore to Offshore waters will have northwest winds 20-25 knots becoming west to southwest 5-15 knots this afternoon then 10-15 knots tonight with seas 7-12 feet subsiding to 2-5 feet this afternoon then 2-4 and 3-6 feet tonight.

Surf and beach conditions will be good today.  Winds will start out from the northwest at 10-15 knots with some potential higher gusts becoming west this afternoon at 5-10 knots then west to southwest tonight at 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots.  Wave heights will continue at 1-2 maybe some 1-3 foot waves with a 1 foot westerly swell at 3-5 seconds.  Surf temperatures are in the low to mid 40’s.  UV Index will be Low at 2/15.

Good morning!  Cold and cloudy with occasional sun mixed in and some scattered showers already across the state.  Some of the showers are snow or mixed precipitation.  It will continue to be cloudy today and tonight with rain moving in this afternoon.  This will begin the next 48 hours or so of the storm moving through our area.  The worst of the storm will be Tuesday Night into Wednesday.  There is no change in the official forecast, but any adjustments will come later this afternoon.  Northwestern areas will begin as a mix of wintry precipitation changing over to snow at some point with the possibility of freezing rain.  Accumulations will be less than an inch or so eventually changing over to all rain.  Winter Weather Advisories have been issued for Sussex and Warren Counties.  The rest of the state will have rain, with 2-4 inches forecast in the next 2 days.   High temperatures today will be in the mid to upper 40’s with overnight lows only getting into the upper 30’s to mid 40’s as warm air moves in from the south.  Winds will increase throughout the day, really picking up tonight and tomorrow.  There Wind Advisories for all counties adjacent to coastal waters.

Water conditions will not deteriorate until later this afternoon into the evening, with southwest to southeast winds 10-15 knot with gusts to 20 knots becoming 5-10 knots before increasing later today.  Gale Warnings and Small Craft Advisories have been issued for all coastal waters, including bays and the Delaware River through Thursday.  By tonight winds will be sustained from the southeast at 25-30 knots with gusts to 45 knots and seas 7-10 feet inshore and 8-13 feet offshore at 5 seconds.

Surf and beach conditions will be good to ok, again not deteriorating until later this afternoon into this evening.  Winds will be west to southwest at 5-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots today before increasing tonight to gale force winds.  Surf is normal right now and will be before becoming dangerously rough tonight with wave heights 1-3 feet before increasing to 4-9 feet tonight and a 1 foot south swell increasing to 4-5 feet tonight at 5 seconds.  Surf temperatures are in the low to mid 40’s.  UV Index is Low at 2/15.

Happy Thanksgiving Afternoon!  Cold, sunny and clear today with some gustier winds, especially along the coast.  The rain has moved out and the remainder of the Holiday Weekend should be dry, with a small chance of some rain/snow showers Saturday Night.  High temperatures today will only be in the mid to upper 30’s with low 30’s across northern areas.  Overnight lows will be in the mid to upper 20’s with upper teens across northern areas.  Wind chills will make it feel even colder today.  Northwest winds will continue inland at 10-15 mph with gusts to 20 mph and 15-20 mph along the coast with gusts to 25 mph.  Winds will decrease by tonight and into the overnight.

Water conditions are cautious today and will improve for tomorrow.  Gale Warnings have been cancelled and Small Craft Advisories are still in effect from Sandy Hook to Delaware including Raritan Bay/New York Harbor.  Winds will gust to 30 knots and seas will be 3-4 feet inshore.  Conditions and seas will be much better for tomorrow and almost back to normal continuing through the weekend.  Seas will be running a little higher than normal, but nothing like midweek!  Raritan Bay will have northwest winds 15-20 knots with gusts to 30 knots diminishing to 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots late today and then 5-10 knots tonight shifting to the southwest after midnight with seas 2 feet becoming 1-2 feet tonight then 1 foot or less after midnight.  Barnegat Bay will have west-northwest winds 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots diminishing to west at 5-10 knots tonight with seas around 1 foot.  Delaware Bay is not under any advisories or warnings and will have northwest winds 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots diminishing to 5-10 knots tonight with seas 2-3 feet subsiding to 1-2 feet tonight.  Inshore ocean waters will have northwest winds at 15-20 knots with gusts to 25 knots, eventually decreasing to 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 late afternoon and then 5-10 knots tonight with seas 3-4 feet at 6 seconds subsiding to 2-4 feet at 10 seconds tonight.  Midshore to Offshore waters will have northwest winds 25-35 knots diminishing to 15-20 knots late today then 10-15 knots tonight with seas 7-13 feet at 6 seconds subsiding to 3-5 feet at 10 seconds tonight.

Surf conditions are OK to cautious.  Northwest winds are still gusty at 10-20 knots with gusts to 25 knots.  These winds will diminish tonight to 5-10 knots.  Surf is rough with wave heights 3-7 feet subsiding to 2-5 feet with a 5 foot southeast swell at 6 seconds increasing to 10 seconds tonight.  Surf temperatures are in the low to mid 40’s.  UV Index is Low at 2/15.

Good Black Friday Afternoon!  It’s a great day all around today that will continue just like the morning.  Right now it is cold, sunny and a mix of clouds with more clouds across northern areas.  It will be dry with no precipitation in the forecast today or pretty much the remainder of the weekend.  Highs will only be in the upper 30’s to low 40’s for inland and coastal areas with low 30’s to low 40’s across northern areas of the state.  Overnight lows will be sub-freezing with low 20’s inland, mid to upper 20’s along the coast and around 10 degrees for northern and northwestern NJ.  VERY, VERY COLD tonight!!  If winds remain light and skies clear/cloud free, lows could get even lower than forecast!  Winds are calm to light today out of the north to northwest at 5-10 mph.

Water conditions are good for all locations with winds from the north to northwest at 5-15 knot with gusts to 20 knots occasionally.  Seas are back to normal for the most part with bays back to 1-2 feet, inshore waters at 2-3 feet at 8-9 seconds and midshore to offshore waters at 3-5 feet at 8-9 seconds.

Surf and beach conditions are back to normal with good conditions today.  North to northwest winds will be 5-15 knots with some gusts to 20 knots.  Surf is normal and cleaned up mostly with wave heights 1-3 feet with a 2-3 foot southeast swell at 8-9 seconds.  Surf temperatures are in the low to mid 40’s.  UV Index is Low at 2/15.
