It’s going to be a rough start to the week for weather and water conditions. The weather will clear before water conditions. Monday will see snow changing to a wintry mix in the early morning hours changing over to rain for all areas except northern/northwestern NJ. These areas will see an accumulation of a few inches of snow, becoming a mix then freezing rain through a good portion of the day. Precipitation will continue all day with lower chances at night before those chances increase for Tuesday with another round of wintry precipitation before clearing out for Tuesday Night. This will be the end of the any precipitation until Saturday. Temperatures will be warmer on Monday with a lifting warm front on Sunday Night and then they will drop and become very cold behind a cold front moving through Tuesday. Monday’s high temperatures will be in the upper 40’s to low 50’s for all areas except northern areas which will only see low 40’s. Highs the rest of the week will only be in the 30’s the rest of the week. Overnight lows this week will get down into the 20’s and 30’s with teens for northern areas. Water conditions look cautious to hazardous depending on location with Small Craft Advisories and Gale Warnings for offshore locations through Thursday. On Thursday, conditions will improve for the remainder of the week. Winds with gale force gusts are possible and seas 5-7 feet are probable. Surf and beach conditions will be good to ok maybe even cautious due to winds. Winds will be gusty from the west to southwest and northwest all week up to 20 knots with gusts to 25 knots. Surf could be rough at times, especially on Monday and Tuesday before being back to normal. Wave heights will be higher on Monday and Tuesday around 1-3 feet then back to 1-2 feet on Wednesday to Friday. Despite, ocean conditions being poor, the west winds will keep the surf down this week. Water temperatures are steady from last week. Rivers and bays are in the low to mid 40’s. Surf temperatures are in the mid 40’s with some upper 40’s and low 40’s in places. Ocean waters are in the upper 40’s to low 50’s with mid 50’s offshore. UV Index will be Low at 0-2/15.
High pressure will move into New England by Sunday Evening. A low pressure system will move through the Great Lakes Region through Monday, bringing a cold front through the area late Monday. A low pressure system will develop and move up along the Mid Atlantic Coast on Monday. A secondary front will move through the region late Tuesday into Wednesday. High pressure will then build into the region from the west on Wednesday before shifting east of the area at the end of the week.
The weekend will have chances of precipitation possible in the form of snow or wintry mix mixed with rain. Rain to mix to snow will go from southeast to northwest with areas to the southeast in rain and moving up to the northwest which will see mostly snow. Accumulations look to be low right now, but this will be something to watch this week. Highs will continue in the 20’s and 30’s with lows in the teens, 20’s and 30’s. Water and beach conditions look good for the weekend so far.
Have a great week and be safe!
