This years Togspacular was no less fun then prior years although Sunday we had a handful of personal bests. We switch it up annually giving our hard earned (some would argue to the contrary) greenery to some of the best in the business. Put together a crew that only a mother would love (if she was half baked). Here's the roll call in no particular order...
Tom Wernik... Chewbacka AKA Plexico Burress
Pualie ... Fish Stick builder extraordinaire
Kooz ...The Fish Whisperer, gimme your second best rod
Trevor ... "I just spent a fortune on Tuna Gear"
Nick B ... Bizzle dreamin of the big one and can get the shorties in the PPC
Donnie...Give me a minute I'll figure out the angle
Blake... You've got trust issues
Tbone... Steady as she goes, when it comes to fish he gets it done
DP... Dogcatcher my AZZZ
We headed to SR on the Gaffer (I know he's a NS but the guy is good) and we had one heck of a day. First drop we found early life. Blake dropped the hammer on a couple putting a grin on his mug thinkin " hey this ain't so difficult" No need to measure but he had early dibs on the first. Then the bite petered out quick. Gave it a good hour before the hooks were pulled and we dropped into the second and final zone. Mate Billy was like an agile Silverback spinning the cords till Capt liked what he had.
Game on.... stern had a steady good bite with most everyone making some numbers, others finding a way to scratch a few together. Port side, all quiet... Snow falling then the tell.... had to be sitting right on the edge. Rods get buckled, Nick, then his Pop T-bone. It's a family affair. Big fish. Grins, smack talk chatter, quick disclosures on best cut on the leggers, whole, half, skull caps, leave em on, take em off... Action is getting hot and furious like a shooter rollin numbers at a craps table. DP angles his tip toward the pig pen. SLAMMMM! He's jacked. Stick is thumpin away. Another nice fish. Meanwhile Chewwy starts poking a few hefty ones in the stern. Good flurry of fatties... The rest of us keep pickin away at very good fish but not in the same class.
This went on from about 11 until 3 when we called it a day. We enjoyed the usual hi jinx, good quality eats, some iced beverages and one heck of a good day out toggin. This is one that gets etched into your memory. Great guys, excellent fishin!
And the winner of the 2013 Tog Cup is Nick B. edging out his dad and Uncle by a half a white legger or so!
