New Here and New to Saltwater fishing and boating

Hello all,  I've been freshwater fishing since I was a kid and this past spring acquired a 19' fourwinns bowrider. I've been fishing the Raritan bay. I went out and bought a few rods and some hooks and weights  went out in the bay and caught nothing, but that didnt stop me.  I still went out almost every weekend. So in general I'll be reading over the Forums here and try to figure something out for the spring. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Where are you launching from?

Raritan bay has a great winter flounder fishery followed by Striped bass on clams. You should start reading up on some of the older posts on those subjects..

  This was a very tough year in Raritan Bay for fishing after Sandy.  It was like a desert for fluke after June when it used to be great fishing all summer.  Almost all the good fluking was outside in the ocean.  Try not to wake up the "old farts" or they become cranky.

I was launching out of Edison, seeing that I trailer the boat. too cheap to pass up. $50 for the year. I'm debating what I want to do in the spring.  I like the idea that I can just hook up the trailer and go anywhere or was thinking of maybe slipping it some where.  If I slip it then I have to deal with all the summertime traffic on the PKWY.  Its a 20 minute ride for me to get to the edison ramp and a 10 min ride down river to get to the the RR bridge.  so I'm waying the Odds.  come spring I'll be looking to get out early. Its not a "Fishing Boat"  but you can fish from it

Sounds like a plan to trailer for a year or two while getting familiar with the the boat ,ramp and fishing area.Afterwards you will be able to determine where you want to concentrate you efforts and time based upon the travel,cost of slip and fishing results.Keep in mind different areas produce and travel is part of the sport.

I would look into the Keyport area for launching to beat the traffic.
 Keyport Marine Basin, Wagners marina.
More south you have Leanardo and Atalantic Highlands municipal.
