A very unsettled week again, however weather and water conditions will moderate to normal by midweek and be mostly uneventful.  Christmas Eve and Christmas Day will be dry, mostly sunny and clear with average temperatures.  Rain is likely Monday and then showers Monday Night with possible snow showers (little accumulation) Tuesday Morning scattered across the state and more likely across northwestern areas.  Tuesday any lingering precipitation will move out returning dry conditions for the rest of the week.  The warm temperatures will depart Monday.  Sunday’s overnight lows will be Monday’s highs and temperatures will drop from there into the overnight lows.  Highs will be seasonable for the rest of the week with 20’s to 40’s for highs and teens to 30’s for lows.  Winds will be breezy much of this week, with moving fronts and pressure systems.  Water conditions will be cautious through Wednesday with Small Craft Advisories before conditions improve on Wednesday for the rest of the week.   Surf and beach conditions will be cautious through Wednesday before improving on Wednesday.  Water temperatures are mostly unchanged from the weekend with 40’s except for offshore waters in the low 50’s.  UV Index is Low 0-2/15.

**NWS & BW forecasts do not agree

A strong cold front extends from the Eastern Great Lakes to the Lower Mississippi River Valley Sunday Afternoon.  The boundary will move to the east and it will pass through the region on Monday Morning.  A secondary cold front is expected to arrive late on Tuesday.  High pressure is expected to follow for Wednesday and Thursday.  A cold front from the Northwest is anticipated for late Thursday with an area of high pressure forecast in its wake for Friday and Saturday.  Another cold front may approach from the Northwest on Sunday.

The weekend looks like a continuation of the end of the week with dry conditions, average temperatures and good water, surf and beach conditions.

Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas to everyone (and their family’s) here at NJSWF from me and my family!

Have a great week!

Re: Change to Christmas Eve Forecast

It looks like the system stalled some and there will be some lingering precipitation on Tuesday with cold air moving in.  This will bring snow showers, mixed precip changing over to rain for most of the state then back to snow showers at night.  This could make for slippery surfaces and hazardous road conditions.  Northwester NJ will get some accumulation of less than an inch.  Other areas will just have a wintry mess on the ground.

Be safe tomorrow and Merry Christmas!!

Good afternoon and Merry Christmas Eve!  The cold has returned, but so has the sun.  It will be mostly sunny with a mix of some clouds and increasing clouds throughout the day.  There are chances of scattered and isolated snow showers today and tonight with some lingering precipitation from the front that moved through yesterday.  Northern parts of the state could see accumulation of less than an inch.  Temperatures are cold again, with highs only in the mid 30’s to low 40’s.  Overnight lows will be in the low to mid 20’s with mid teens across northern areas of the state.  Winds could be gustier at times form the northwest at 10-15 mph.

Water conditions are cautious with Small Craft Advisories from Raritan Bay east to Montauk and south up the Delaware River.  Winds today will gust from the northwest at 20 knots increasing to 30 knots tonight with inshore seas 4-6 feet and offshore 5-9 feet.  Conditions will begin to improve on Wednesday.

Surf and beach conditions are good to ok.  Northwest winds can be gusty at 10-15 knots with some gusts to 20 knots increasing to 25-30 knots tonight.  Surf is rough with wave heights 2-5 feet with a 3-5 foot southeast swell at 7 seconds.  Surf temperatures are in the low 40’s.  UV Index is Low at 2/15.

Have a great Christmas Eve and be safe!

Merry Christmas Morning!  Sunny and cold with some clouds mixed in.  Sunny with increasing clouds for the rest of the day becoming partly to mostly cloudy.  Dry today, with a chance of rain and snow showers tomorrow.  Highs will be in the low to mid 30’s with mid 20’s across northern areas.  Overnight lows will be in the mid to upper 20’s with low 20’s across northern areas.  Winds will be light out of the northwest at 5-10 mph.

Water conditions have improved with only Small Craft Advisories for Sandy Hook to Fire Island Inlet.  Winds could be gusty this morning from the northwest at 15-20 knots diminishing to 5-10 knots by this afternoon with seas 3-6 feet subsiding to 2-4 feet this afternoon.

Good afternoon!  Sorry, this is late, but I had some internet issues this morning.  Cloudy right now with some snow showers moving through the state.  There is a chance of snow showers the remainder of the day, but it looks like clouds will be thinning out and some sunshine is even possible.  Tonight, clouds will clear out, leaving mostly clear skies.  High temperatures will be in the low 40’s with low 30’s across northern areas.  Overnight lows will be in the 20’s with mid teens across the north.  With clear skies and calm winds tonight, temperatures could definitely drop lower than forecast due to radiational cooling.  Winds will be light to calm inland out of the west around 5 mph with coastal winds 10-15 mph.

Water conditions are good to cautious with Small Craft Advisories for ocean waters from Cape May north through Montauk.  SCA areas have winds gusting to 25 knots and seas building 2-3/2-4 feet.  Raritan Bay will have west winds 5-10 knots increasing to 10-15 knots later today with seas 1 foot or less increasing to 1-2 feet by later today.  Barnegat Bay will have west winds 10-12 knots becoming west-northwest tonight with seas around 1 foot.  Delaware Bay will have west winds around 10 knots increasing to 10-15 knots with gusts to 25 knots tonight with seas 2-3 feet.  Sandy Hook to Fire Island Inlet will have west winds 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots increasing 15-20 knots with gusts to 25 knots later today through tonight before becoming northwest and diminishing to 10-15 knots after midnight with seas 2-4 feet.  Inshore ocean waters will have southwest winds 10-15 knots becoming northwest with gusts to 25 knots later this afternoon with seas 2-3 feet building to 2-4 feet tonight at 12 seconds.  Visibility could be limited to 1-3 nm.  Midshore to Offshore waters will have west becoming west to northwest winds 15-25 knots becoming north to northwest and diminishing to 10-20 knots after midnight with seas 2-4 feet increasing to 4-7 feet at 12 seconds.

Surf and beach conditions are good with some gustier winds.  Winds are west to southwest to northwest around 10-20 knots.  Surf is normal with wave heights 1-3 feet with a 2 foot east-southeast swell at 10 seconds.  Winds and surf could increase additionally later this evening into tonight.  Surf temperatures are in the low 40’s.  UV Index is Low at 1/15.

Have a great rest of the day!

Good afternoon!  A nice day out there today with sunny skies and some clouds mixed in.  More cloudy in the northern half of the state right now.  It will continue to be sunny and dry with clear skies and some continued cloudiness across the north.  High temperatures will be in the low to mid 40’s with upper 30’s across the north.  Overnight lows will be cold with mid to upper 20’s inland, low 30’s along the coast and low 20’s across northern areas.  Winds are light out of the west at 10-15 mph.  Tomorrow looks be a warmer repeat of today!

Water conditions and surf and beach conditions are good today, except Midshore to Offshore will be borderline cautious with some gustier winds to 20 knots and seas to 5 feet.  All other waters, winds will gustier 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots with seas improving to 2-3 feet.  Surf is normal even calm with wave heights 1-2 feet.

Have a great Friday!!
