Tuesday - Wednesday Winter Storm/Nor'Easter
« on: January 20, 2014, 11:42:23 AM »
Good afternoon!  A complete run down on the winter storm for tomorrow…this system appeared early last week and ALL of the models trended away from much of anything besides some snow showers with light accumulations for areas south and east of the I-95 corridor.  This is why you didn’t hear much about this storm.  As of yesterday, the models started suggesting a bigger storm was in the works and today with a moderate to major Winter Storm/Nor’Easter capable of 2-6+ inches.  Today the models are suggesting 8-10+ inches for areas south and east of I-95!  Currently, the official snowfall forecast from the NWS has a majority of the state in 4-6 inches with 2-4 inches in extreme northern/northwestern NJ.  Snow will start early in the day becoming heaviest in the afternoon to late afternoon.  Temperatures will be cold, so no worries about mix or rain with this system.  Winds could be an issue with this system tomorrow and some guidance suggests possible blizzard conditions with winds up to or greater than 35 mph for an extended period of time causing blowing snow.  I am also seeing guidance for coastal flooding pointing towards minor to moderate flooding Tuesday Night and Wednesday with tides running 1-3 feet above normal.

I will have more as it comes in.  I would plan for a moderate snow storm, but be ready for a significant to major snowstorm, especially central and southern parts of the state.

Be safe!

I'll settle on Florida or anywhere it isn't snowing and frozen ;D!  I think this is going to be the big coastal storm that "snuck up on us" this season.  I wouldn't be surprised with 12-18 inches along the coast with such cold temps and high water to snow ratios!  I'm hoping I am wrong, but...I hate shoveling snow too...need to invest in a snow blower.
