Deep Sea Fishing Fort Lauderdale Happy Day Today

Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Bob Johnson from California had time to kill before his plane was leaving to take him back home, so he chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea charter fishing in Fort Lauderdale.  We had temperatures in the low 80’s, sun shining, wind out of the east at 12-15 mph, seas running 4-5 ft.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, I started trolling at the sea buoy located in 120 ft. of water in Fort Lauderdale FL.  We put one #8 plainer down with a double hook Bonito strip with a black and blue sea witch in front.  For surface baits we went with two Ballyhoos and two Bonito strips and a Ballyhoo dredge for a teaser.

I headed to one of our 34 artificial wrecks located in Fort Lauderdale, ranging from 60 ft. of water out to 480 ft. consisting of 500 ft freighters to 30 ft. boats.  I trolled from one wreck to the other looking to mark fish on the depth recorder and caught four Kingfish, two Mahi Mahi’s and three Bonitos.  There was a slight color change forming in 185 ft. of water.  As I trolled south on the color change back to Fort Lauderdale, a black shadow appeared on the dredge teaser.  Mark, our mate, pitched baited the Sailfish and immediately he faded off the teaser and ate the Ballyhoo.  The fun began!!!  This Atlantic Sailfish came out of the water, tail-walking away from the boat while the sun’s rays hit his body, showing his brilliant blue and silver neon colors.  Twenty-five minutes later Bob reeled in the Sailfish as Mark brought the fish to the boat for picture taking, to be released to fight again.

Bob retired to our a/c salon to rest up for his flight to California while we headed back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
