Anglers interested in striped bass should plan to attend the Striped Bass Forum at the Atlantic City Boat Show on Saturday, February 8 at 4 p.m. A special presentation by NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife biologist Russ Allen will kick off this public discussion about New Jersey's number one gamefish - the striped bass - and what management actions may be on the horizon. (See
http://www.acboatshow.com/attendees/features/seminars.aspx#id238 for other seminar participants and full seminar schedule.)
Russ will present an overview of the latest Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission's (ASMFC) striped bass assessment results, current coastwide stock status, New Jersey's survey results and potential ASMFC management actions. The forum will offer attendees a unique first glimpse at what fisheries managers discussed at the ASMFC Striped Bass Board meeting earlier in the week in Virginia.
The forum will be just one of a series of seminars at the show which is being held February 5 - 9 at the Atlantic City Convention Center. The show will offer a unique collection of 'how to' fishing seminars each day targeted specifically to New Jersey saltwater fishing opportunities.
Also, world record holder Greg Myerson and his 81.88-pound striped bass mount will be displayed on Saturday and Sunday. Myerson caught the new world record in Connecticut in 2011, breaking the previous 29-year record held by Al McReynolds, a 78-1/2-pound striper caught in the Atlantic City surf back on September 21, 1982. That fish still stands as a New Jersey state record striped bass.
