Monday 2/3/2014 Snow
« on: February 01, 2014, 05:08:32 PM »
Snowfall totals are up some for Monday's snow! A larger bulk of the center part of the state will see 2-4 inches according to the official forecast. There is potential for upwards of 6 inches in these areas.  Timing still looks to be early morning hours into the morning commute and continue throughout the day.

Midweek looks to be more of a mix at this point or rain, with higher possibilities of freezing rain. This would be the worse case scenario, even worse than high accumulations of snow.

Next weekend is still up in the air...timing could be later on Sunday into Monday, even and it looks like significant system with decent precipitation.  Precip could be rain/mix/snow changing over to all snow on the backside of the storm.  This is still out of the range to be accurate, so let's take 2 storm at a time!

Be safe!

Looks like the NWS PHI is buying the 6 inches across a small central portion of the state. This area including Salem, Gloucester, Camden, Burlington and Ocean Counties is under a Winter Storm Watch, which if forecasts remain, will become a Winter Storm Warning for Monday!

System has shifted north and so have the 4-6 inch ranges. The entire state should be ready for 2-6 inches, potentially more. It could start as a mix or sleet changing over the snow in the early morning hours between 4-6 AM, heaviest between 9A-3P. There is little to no model agreement with this system as to track, intensity or snowfall. Either way, tomorrow morning commute will be messy and temperatures by Monday Night will be well below freezing statewide.

Be safe!

Hey, you can't say I never gave you anything ;D! This Winter with the unpredictable pattern, the horrible reliability in the models and the constant see-saw between warmer air and Arctic air has been a nightmare. I figure I will expect the worst and be happy when it is nothing or just rain!

This is in response to some Social Media Weather "Agencies" that posted model images last week. The model image represented 30+ inches of snow to the bulk of NJ and was titled "Blizzard!" This set-off a frenzy and the NWS Philadelphia in Mount Holly fielded hundreds of phone calls from local government officials in regards to this. This is just reiterating that snow totals cannot be forecast this far in advance, so if you see forecasts of the such, it is probably not something to focus on!
