Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

David and Kim Curtis, along with their kids, Kurt and Tiffany Stadelbauer, and grandchildren, Brook, age 7 and Elaina, age 6, chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale FL -   three generations sharing the experience of fishing.  Winds were out of the west at 5-8 mph and seas were running 1-2 ft, temperatures in the mid 70’s.

After leaving the dock at Bahia Mar, 15 minutes later lines were in the water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale FL in 120 ft. of water.  We put down two #8 plainers, both with double hook Bonito strips with sea witches in front.  For surface baits we had two Ballyhoos and two Bonitos.

I trolled the drop off going out to 350 ft. and back into 80 ft of water at an east-west tack.  Our first fish was a Bonito as Kurt hopped into the chair and put his daughter, Brook, on his lap to assist him in bringing in the 12 lb. Bonito – putting a big smile on Brook’s face.  Elaina was the next one up and accomplished the same with another Bonito.  Then, as I trolled from one wreck to another – the plainer rod bent over as David was the angler and reeled in a Black Grouper weighing in 20 lbs, which was released due to it being out of season.  Everybody took turns bringing in a couple of Kingfish and a Mahi Mahi.  As I was trolling back to the sea buoy in 300 ft. of water, the plainer rod bent over with the rod tip bouncing up and down – immediately I knew it was going to be a Wahoo.  David was our angler; ten minutes later, Mark, our mate, grabbed the leader and played tug of war with the Wahoo.  Mark won and gaffed the 31 lb., 53” Wahoo into the boat.

With plenty of fish for tonight’s dinner, the family retired into the a/c salon aboard the Happy Day Today for the trip back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
