Winter is making itself well known this first week of March and the first full week of Meteorological Spring! With a Winter Storm for Central and Southern NJ and accumulations of 2-8 inches, Winter is ready to give way just yet! Snow will clear out of the state by later afternoon, yielding decreasing cloudy skies becoming mostly clear tonight. Tuesday and Wednesday will be dry with a mix of sun and clouds before mostly cloudy skies moves in on Thursday and Friday again bringing scattered rain and snow showers with possible mixed wintry precipitation in there. Cold air will return through the week, yielding by Wednesday. Monday through Tuesday will have dangerously cold temperatures with highs in the teens and 20’s and lows below freezing to teens. Wednesday through Friday will see 20’s to 40’s with teens to 30’s for lows. Winds will settle by later tonight for most areas with only southern areas seeing some winds return on Thursday and Friday. Water conditions are Cautious to Hazardous today with conditions back to good for the rest of the week. Thursday and Friday could bring some gustier winds, especially across Southern Waters. These winds and seas could prompt SCA’s, but even this is borderline right now. Surf and beach conditions are OK to Cautious today, returning to good through Thursday or Friday. Thursday could see an increase in winds and surf. Thursday and Friday could become cautious with rough surf around 2-5 feet. Water temperatures have dropped again with inshore waters in the low 30’s to low 40’s. Surf temperatures are in the mid 30’s. Offshore waters are in the mid to upper 40’s. UV Index is increasing, as are the days and angle of the sun. UV Index will be Low to Moderate this week at 2-4/15.
Low pressure in North Carolina will head east and out to sea late today. High Pressure will follow into the Mid Atlantic States Tuesday, then its primary center shifts to Maine by Thursday. Low pressure is forecast to pass well to our southeast and east on Friday. A cold front from the Northeast is then expected to pass through the region late Saturday with a chance low pressure forms on that front near the Mid Atlantic Coast. High pressure follows by early next week.
The weekend looks pretty good right now. Mix of sun and clouds with the chance of rain showers on Saturday Night (low chance right now). Temperatures will warm into the 30’s and 40’s with lows in the 20’s and 30’s. Water, surf and beach conditions look good at this point.
