how is this POSSIBLE?
« on: April 20, 2014, 08:42:34 AM »
i was fishing at shohola creek in PA with my father , brother and his buddy....caught a bunch of brook trout.. alot small a few like 12 inchers on fat heads and mealworms also a rooster tail.. not bad... but this is the wierd thing.. my dad saw a crappy in the creek down at the hole below route 6... it definitely came from the lake and took a beating down the waterfalls on the way down.. looked like a scabbed up salmon.. my dad put a fly in front of it and lifted like salmon fishing, he got it right in the mouth... it was barely moving, just sitting there... so he ends up keeping it..put a stick through its gills and carried it up to his truck and went home...he has bad knees and if you walked down by shohola creek before you know the cliff and the walk etc.. so he only fished for like a half hour... he then drove 25 minutes back to milford put the crappie in the sink for another 10 minutes in like 2 inches of water just to keep it cold i guess until i got home to clean the trout and it up... well instead he put it in his koi pond and the thing is alive and kickin.........................

it was out of water an estimated 40-45 minutes. what IS  up with this fish? the crappie is like 12 inches long it is a nice fish just looks beat up from the rocks has white scabs in places etc.. how effed up is that though?

the crappie is doing well in the koi pond and was not dinner!  clp
Give a man a fish, and he can eat for a day. But teach a man how to fish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years.

Some species of fish are real hardy, Ive had a fish jump out of my tank land in the flower pot and live for an hour
Its better to sit in a boat and think about God, than to sit in a church and think about fishing.

I remember when I was in third grade, me and my dad took a day trip to some lake somewhere in Pennsylvania. We caught 3 catfish which we took home. Had them in a plastic bag without an extra water. It was a solid two hour drive back home. When we got home, all 3 fish were still alive. We filled up the bathtub and these 3 guys swam around for an hour or so until it was time to cook them. I know catfish are hardier than most fish but this was still impressive, two hours out of the water.

perhaps it was the lingering effects of a sharknado in the area?
