Most of the headboats in Point are bottom fishing, while a few are jigging/chumming for bluefish.
If you are planning on going bottom fishing, a half-day boat like the NK3 or the J2 are going to be fishing relatively close to the inlet, since it takes time to anchor the boat, re-anchor, etc. They are NOT fishing the same spots, since if 2 headboats hit the same spot on the same day that piece will be picked over until Christmas.
All day boats like the Paramount and Dauntless can range a bit further, and they can hit more spots further from the inlet like the Mud Hole, which has been producing A LOT of ling.
The inshore snags are loaded with tiny seabass, some porgies, and a few small tog. Water is still warm.
Right now the best bet for bottom fishing would be to get on one of the all-day boats that are fishing the mud hole, as you have a better chance of catching A LOT of fish.
