I had friends from work out this evening. Mike and 10 year old son Nick, Joe#1, John, Joe#2 and Deckboss Cashin. We met at 5pm in Keyport and Mike said all he wants is his son Nick to catch his first Striper.
Contacts I spoke to said the morning trolling bite was on fire. So we head out to the grounds and trolled an assortment of gear. The port rod takes a hit and Nick takes over. He fought the fish well and soon had his first Striper ever on the deck. Too bad it was just short of a keeper. After a bunch of high fives and photos the spread goes out again. Now we wait and wait and wait. Nothing
. I don't see any boats landing fish. I called a friend on the VHF and he's not doing anything either.
We decided to anchor up and baitfish for a change and that produced a few Skates.
. At 9:15pm we head for the marina to a light drizzle. I'm thinking the approaching storm front and drop in pressure turned off the bite this evening.
Looks like crappy weather till Sunday "Mothers day" which happens to be my anniversary. I'm gonna suggest a fishing trip for the occasion.
Best of Luck,
Eddie
