NJ Fishing & Boating Weather Outlook Weekend Edition: June 7-8, 2014

Sunny and dry with Summer-like temperatures with calm waters this weekend. It looks dry for the majority of the weekend. There is a slight chance of an isolated or scattered shower and/or thunderstorm, with those chances increasing into Sunday Evening/Night. Otherwise, it looks to be dry and sunny. High temperatures will be in the low to mid 80’s with mid to upper 70’s along the coast and on the water. Overnight lows will be in the 50’s and 60’s. Humidity will be moderate to higher, especially on Sunday. Water conditions are good for all waters with mostly calm winds under 10 knots and seas 2-3 feet at 7-10 seconds. Winds and seas will subside for Saturday and may increase late Sunday/Sunday Night. Surf and beach conditions are good as well with calm to normal surf with wave heights of 1-3 feet with a SE swell 3 feet at 9 seconds. Rip Current Risk is Low for the weekend. Water temperatures are warming, with rivers and bays in the mid 60’s to low 70’s, surf temperatures in the low to mid 60’s, inshore ocean waters in the low to mid 60’s and offshore waters in the upper 50’s with much warmer waters beyond the 20 nm mark and moving east/northeast steadily. UV Index will be High to Very High at 7-8/15.

Weak high pressure will build toward the area on Friday and into Saturday, then begin to shift offshore Saturday Night and Sunday.  A warm front will move into the area late on Sunday, followed by a cold front. A weak low pressure system will arrive on Monday. The front may linger in the area on Tuesday and Wednesday as weak lows track along it. The front may break down on Thursday, as weak high pressure arrives from the west.

Next week looks very unsettled for the majority of the week. This means chances of showers and thunderstorms through Thursday or Friday. These will likely be scattered most of the week with a possibility of more widely scattered to widespread storms between Tuesday and Wednesday. High temperatures will continue upper 70’s and 80’s with cooler temps along the coast. Overnight lows will be in the upper 50’s to mid 60’s. Water, surf and beach conditions look good for the week, so far. Thunderstorms, of course, could bring some gusty winds and higher seas.
