I got to the boat at 0230 to start loading up and we Headed out at false light with Dave, Mike, George and Gary onboard in flat calm conditions. Nice ride out to the grounds and lines in by 05:55 and got the road to the gray brick road going promptly. Not much drift so at 7 a.m. we decided to make a small move before we got too committed to our slick. Lines back in at 7:30 and got the slick started up again. Better life here with bait balls from 25 to 40 ft. Around 8 a.m. we marked the man in the gray suit under the boat at 30 feet....watched him on the screen for an hour when the short rod at 25 ft down starts that slow click click....the float starts swimming at the boat and we set the steel home and its game on!....when she knows she is hooked she greyhounds out of the water about 5 feet up(just an amazing sight and cant get enough of it) and we see we are into a nice fish.
Mike gets settled in on the rod and we start the dance....backing down, forward, port , stbd...she has us all over the place and then goes down deep and we put the heat to her. Not long after, we get our leader amd she meets the business end of the shotgun and 3 gaffs. Game over and high fives all around. Back to the dock by 10:30 for a weigh in at 240 lbs...80" with a 41" girth.
Will post pics after I download to computer shortly.
Next open boat is Sat 7/5....come get some!
