IBSP over the weekend

Hi All, tried to fish Saturday and the wind was ripping no luck. Went back sunday and tried the northern fishing area tons of sea weed so moved south and water cleared up, no action but there was this huge mass of clear fibrous gel, and it completely engulfed the bucktails and line to the point that it could not be cleaned off. Did anyone else encounter this mass, and what is it? It was actually washing up on the beach.

Thanks for the report.  Good to hear the seaweed isn't everywhere.

That was salps you encountered.  They are a small jellyfish.  They've been in the wash along the park for a couple weeks now.  They are usually more concentrated in a hole or cut (which is also the best fishing spot).  But usually moving even 20 feet will get you away from the heavy concentration of them.  They are a real PITA on braided line.

thanks I thought it was some sort of jelly fish but it was so thick and almost impossible to get off the braid. it also seemed to be moving along the coast as I tried to get away from it.
