My GF and I basically speant the weekend on the boat stopping here and there to net spearing and do some paddleboarding. We figured out some effective techniques for seining and I must say the live spearing made the difference in the bay. Between wind, waves, and rain it was hit and miss with fishing and the boat handling was challenging at times. I knew somethig was up when I watched the commercial boats setting their patrons up inside the inlet. So.....the fishing. Headed out of Manasquan and trolled just north of the 1 mile marker. Caught a couple decent bluefish. Headed out to Axel Carlson well after dark. Nothing was going on so we came back in the bay. We fished with bucktails and spearing near the pipeline. Caught several shorts. Changed rigs to lighter bucktails (3/8oz), lighter leaders, and smaller hooks with live spearing. Immediately Started getting faster, harder hits and hookups. Ended up with a 22" and a 19.5" in short order right after changing to lighter set ups. Inside the bays I think I'll stick to the lighter stuff and fresh spearing from now on. It really made a difference.
