A mixed weekend with active and unsettled weather patterns affecting weather and water conditions. Saturday will have higher chances of rain, all day, clearing out for Sunday. Sunday looks dry with more sun than clouds. Highs will be in the upper 60’s to lower 70’s with overnight lows in the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s. Humidity should be low to moderate. The cold front last night took that muggy air and sent it out to sea. Water conditions will be mixed all weekend and vary by location and time. Overall, it looks like a very borderline weekend with some good conditions possible and some cautious conditions possible as well, depending on the location. In general, the northeasterly/northerly flow will continue. Saturday will see 10-15 knot winds with gusts to 20 knots through Sunday afternoon with seas 2-4 feet inshore and 4-5 feet offshore. Sunday Afternoon will see winds diminish to 5-10 knots and seas settling to closer to the 2 foot mark. Not a washout by far! Surf and beach conditions will be good minus the gustier winds through Sunday Afternoon. Surf could be rougher at times, with the northeasterly/northerly winds and waves will average 1-3 feet, but higher waves in the 2-4+ foot range are possible. Rip Current Risk will be Moderate this weekend, so be careful in and around the surf. Water temperatures are a few degrees cooler already, however most temperatures are still in the low to mid 70’s. UV Index will be Low to Moderate on Saturday and High on Sunday.
High pressure over the region on Friday will move away Friday Night. A low pressure system and it’s associated fronts will affect the area Saturday and Saturday Evening. High pressure will then arrive for Sunday and remains across the area through Monday. The next cold front will arrive Monday Night and Tuesday, with high pressure again building in for Wednesday and Thursday.
Monday will start off dry, with chances of rain for Monday Night and Tuesday, clearing out for Tuesday Night and remaining dry the rest of the week. Highs will be in the 70’s with lows in the 50’s, maybe some 40’s across northern NJ. Water conditions will be mixed depending on location and day. Monday looks good, Tuesday borderline, Wednesday OK, Thursday borderline-cautious and Friday OK-good. Surf and beach conditions look good all week, minus some gustier winds approaching 20 knots on Tuesday and Thursday.
Tropical Storm Edouard has formed in the Eastern Atlantic and will remain out to sea. It is forecast to strengthen and become a hurricane, but no affects should be felt here for maritime areas. It should stay well east of Bermuda. There are 2 invest areas being watched as well. One right off the East Coast of Florida that will likely track west and move into the GOM and another that just emerged off of Cape Verde. Nothing to be concerned with here right now. The system off of Florida is bringing tropical rains and may develop once in the GOM, so Gulf States need to keep an eye on this.
Have a great weekend and thanks for reading!
