Not clamming to chum but to eat..

Sorry for the misunderstanding.
We used to walk in the water about waiste high and dig your feet into the sand. When you hit something hard go under and retrieve it. Your suppose to have a permit for this in Jersey of coarse. Anything to get your hard earned dollar.

first you have to get a licence.. after that, you may need to hook up with a sharpie in your area to find the right spots.  Clam with rake or by foot in 4' or so of water.
Fish out of Toms River NJ.
Call Nick for open boat, 973-417-5756, or on Channel 68.

Seriously, I'd love to go clamming sometime!  Used to go all the time as a little kid with my Dad, but neither of us have done it in years.  I believe we used to do in behind IBSP somewhere, at this point it's something of a blur.

Don't have a wet suit, but next spring, count me in!

What is everyone's preferred method for securing the clams you harvest?

Pouch?   Basket inside a floatable ring?

Also, what do you guys prefer for winter clamming?    Waders or wet suits?

Looking at the map you get with license. Accept along the shore line you can clam all year?? Does that mean I could just anchor and start raking or wading anywhere? Are there clams out in the middle of Barnegat or do they wonder around?  rofla
Is there a reason they are closer to the shore or out in the middle? Any help here would be appreciated.

Thanks
Frank

Below are links to the 2007 charts in the region you are looking at.    I don't think the 2008 charts are out yet.

This may seem like a really dumb question, but if you clam with your feet in the bay, do crabs ever come and think you are bait or anything?

I'd love to do this, but I am scared of the crabs getting at my feet. Does it ever happen?
