A wet weekend with poor water conditions. Rain is possible both days with rain decreasing into Sunday Night. Saturday Night, northern parts of the state could see a wintry mix on Saturday and Saturday Night. Skies will be mostly cloudy to cloudy. Saturday’s highs and lows will be almost equal with 40’s for most of the state and mid 30’s for northern areas. Temperatures will then increase into Sunday with upper 50’s and low 60’s likely, as a warm front lifts north across the state, as low pressure passes to the north. By Sunday Night, a strong cold front will pass through bringing lows back in the 20’s and 30’s and a return of cold air. Water conditions will be ok to start Saturday and will deteriorate to cautious conditions with Small Craft Advisories on Saturday. By Sunday, conditions will be hazardous with Gale Warnings. Winds will gust to 35 knots with seas 8-10 feet. Surf and beach conditions will be ok, then cautious and then hazardous, echoing water conditions. Surf will be rough and could top 8 feet on Sunday. Water temperatures have dropped a few degrees. UV Index will be Low 0-2/15.

High pressure will remain over the region through Friday Night before moving over New England and Eastern Canada on Saturday. Low pressure will develop over the Mississippi Valley and move into the Great Lakes by Sunday. A warm front associated with this low will cross the area on Saturday Night into early Sunday, followed by a strong cold front on Sunday Evening. High pressure will then build in behind the cold front for Monday into Tuesday. A weak cold front will cross the region on Tuesday, followed by more high pressure for Wednesday.

Next week looks dry with temperatures back into the 30’s and 40’s with lows in the 20’s and 30’s. Water, surf and beach conditions will be cautious to hazardous most of the week, improving possibly for the end of the week.

Have a great weekend and thanks for reading!

Re: Wind Advisories for Sunday Night
« Reply #1 on: January 04, 2015, 04:46:39 PM »
Wind Advisories have been posted for all NJ Coastal Counties with winds 20-30 mph with gusts to 50 mph. Winds will increase with the approaching cold front and rain and even thunderstorms are still possible through tonight.

Gale Warnings and Small Craft Advisories are also in effect for adjacent coastal waters.

Outlook coming up...coldest temperatures of the season, possibility of accumulating snow and mostly poor water conditions are this week's headlines.
