Egg sinkers
« on: January 07, 2015, 03:45:37 PM »
Thinking of using egg sinkers rather than banks for flounder rigs. How do you keep the sinker from sliding to the end of your rig?  :headscra:

they go on your main line above the swivel for the rig

I use a double rig and want the sinker in between them.  :headscra:

What weight slip sinkers are you using? Do you want the rig to free float?

In the bay under 2oz. I want it o float or slide between the 2 baits. Dropper loop for teaser then the egg sinker then another hook but don't want sinker going all the way down to the hook.

What about this? Just replace the fishfinder/chrome ball with an egg sinker.

Just put a swivel or a knot with a bead in front of wherever you want it to stop sliding

With that rig the sinker can still slide to the fish finder and if I understand reckless he wants the sinker between both hooks. I think if that is correct then Hunter 2 is on spot with his suggestion.

My question is: why do you need the sinker between the two hooks?  :headscra:

whs,  are you surf casting, hence the egg sinker?    Could
A 3 way / duo lock snap swivel accomplish the same thing with a sinker on the duo lock?

As you can see in this picture my sinker is in the middle. I want to replace the dropper loop with the egg sinker. Less hardware less drag less chance of picking up weed. This rig has worked very good for me. Just trying to improve it. grtn

What you have in that pic is a Hi-Lo rig.  If you use a mono leader slide the egg sinker on, then tie on a barrel swivel then your leader to your green squid. Then tie a dropper on your mono leader and attach the pink squid to that dropper.

I hate to say it but it really makes no sense to use an egg sinker for what you are trying to accomplish.  Stick with what you have. Using an egg just makes it harder if you want to adjust your weight.

Considering what you are trying to accomplish with the rig you have,I don't see how the egg (slip sinker) will help either way. I have studied your rig and tried to understand what you want to accomplish and still have the same rig application, if you change the drop loop you change the rigs action. Either I'm missing something or I have to agree with Bucktail.

That picture is helpfull,   I like that rig.
Personally I would even try a Bucktail to replace the sinker. It's an extra hook natural appearance.  Might be worth a test run. t^

or if you really want to try the egg sinker you could tie it into the dropper loop

Reckless: If nothing else you have given some of us a new rig to use. I like that myself, and yes a picture is worth a thousand words in this case.

Just a question for you. What is the spread of the hook between each other and where are you spacing the drop loop?

So I can make one up for myself ;D

How about this:
Make up the same rig but cut the leader where you are now putting the dropper loop. Attach a 2 oz trolling weight in between your now two pieces of leader. It will not 'slide' as an egg sinker would but I think it would accomplish what you are looking to due (less hardware, etc).

If you think this would work I have the mold for these type sinkers and can make a few trolling weights for you with swivels on both ends to attach the leader. (free of charge Frank) Just let me know if you want to try it.
