Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Helen Clement and her husband, Joel Charest, along with friends, Lucie and Maurice all from Montreal, Canada, while vacationing in South Florida to get away from the cold weather back home, chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some big game deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale FL. Winds were out of the east at 5 mph, seas running 2-3 ft, blue skies with temperatures in the mid 80's.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft of water at the sea buoy in Ft. Lauderdale, 1.8 miles off shore. We started off trolling with two #8 plainers, one with a 3 1/2 blue reflector drone spoon and the other with a blue and white sea witch in front of a double hooked Bonito strip. For surface baits we went with two Bonito strips and two Ballyhoos. I trolled the reefs ranging in depths of water from 80 to 140 ft of water catching a couple of Kingfish, but they were shorts and were released. From there I trolled to the east of Ft. Lauderdale where I came across a board that had Mahi Mahi's underneath it; we caught two but were released because they were under-sized.

Our objective today was to put some dinner on the table for tonight, so I went to one of my wrecks located in 440 ft of water off of Fort Lauderdale. On our first drop Joel caught an Amberjack - not the best for eating. Next was Helen's turn and she caught two nice Golden Tilefish, an excellent eating fish. Our next angler was Lucy and she also caught two Golden Tilefish. With one more Amberjack added to the count caught by Maurice, it was time to head back.

The anglers retired into the a/c salon for a relaxing ride back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
