Gear questions
« on: March 16, 2015, 05:26:37 PM »
Hi guys, new to the forum, but a long time bass and trout fisherman. My wife got me a shamanic solstace 2500 for Christmas and I'm looking for a rod to go along with it for bay and inlet fishing. I'm usually dragging clams off the jetty in sandy hook.

My fresh water gear is a lamiglass daiwa combo and its certainly light.

Any info would be much appreciated.

Thanks!
Mike

Are you looking for a custom rod? Or off the rack? Casting off the beach I would say an 8' or 9' Med. Fast rod would work good. You can find rods at most tackle shops in that range, also Brands Like Calstar, St.Croix,Seeker and Lamiglas are all good choices. If you want custom. There are a few people here that build rods. Wreckfish is one of them. PM him and ask.

Take a look at tsunami airwave surf rod, maybe the TSAWSS-802MH or the TSAWSS-902MH.
Reasonably priced.

Appreciate the info guys, but I'm definitely looking for something smaller than 8ft. I'm looking for a lagoon/jetty rod.

Thanks!

You can apply the same advice in a shorter rod if that is what you want, it doesn't change the advice that was given as far as equipment brands are concerned. If you are fishing from a Jetty IMO> A larger/longer stick is a better choice, and the application as far as Inlet/Lagoon fishing is concerned, the shorter rod is better. But those are two completely different applications. Jetty/Inlet. Good luck with your choice on the right rod, please make sure you research the applications well before making a choice.

Solstice 2500 is a pretty small reel. I'd check out some of the lighter rods St. Croix has to offer... Tidemaster and Mojo Inshore are both high quality series.

Sorry Mike I did misunderstand the question as far as your fishing intention with you new reel. blynch is right on with his suggestion on rods. I was thinking jetty fishing.
