Today in the SE counties of PA the Fish & Game opened the trout streams for the day for Mentor Trout Day. This allows adult licensed anglers to take youngsters out under 16 yrs old and sneak in an early day of trout fishing before the season opener on April 4th....so I got my boys their Mentored Permits and we hit the stream.
very cold and windy today and the water was pretty chilly thru the waders. Hit the normal honey hole first and had 3 misses. Worked our way downstream a mile to a nice clearing that the boys could fish from the banks. In a half hour they had 5 nice brookies between them, losing 2 on the way in and missed 4 or 5 nice strikes. Butter Worms, Redworms and trout formula power bait produced all strikes and fish today... they did it all without help from dad today except for casting....that will be the next lesson.
