Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Mark Robertson, Todd Hassard and Henkel all from Toronto incorporated their vacation with a corporate convention here in Fort Lauderdale.  They chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL.    Today winds were out of the east at 10 mph, seas running 3-4 ft., temperatures in the low 80’s with blue skies.

We stopped on our way out to pick up a dozen live Goggle Eyes from T&T Bait, which is located on the inlet.  We started off trolling with two plainers, each having a sea witch in front of a double hooked Bonito strip. For surface baits we went with Ballyhoos and Bonito strips.  Our first fish was caught off of the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, FL, which was a Mahi Mahi, followed by a Black Fin Tuna.

The water color was very inviting for kite fishing so we put out two kites with two live Goggle Eyes from each kite.  As the anglers discussed their businesses, a black shadow appeared on the right short.  Very lethargically, the Sailfish swam around the live Goggle Eye, playing cat and mouse with the bait, while the Goggle Eye frantically tried to swim away.  The game was over as he devoured the live Goggle Eye.  He swam away slowly with the bait in his mouth.

Sailfish on the left short!!!!  This Sailfish grabbed the bait immediately and swam away at a fast speed.  The fun began as one Sailfish headed north with leaps and bounds (Mark being the angler on this one) and the other headed south (Henkel was the angler first, and then Todd took over).  After a thirty minute battle, the two fish were getting closer and closer together.  The anglers kept switching from side to side to avoid tangles – excellent job on the anglers’ part.  Dave, our mate, first grabbed Mark’s Sailfish and brought it into the boat for picture taking.  Once released, Dave grabbed the other Sailfish and brought him into the boat for picture taking and release.

After an exciting double header Sailfish, it was time to head back - all the anglers relaxed in the a/c salon for the trip back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
