An overall nice, three day holiday weekend for weather, but water conditions will not be so cooperative. Sunny with some clouds for Saturday and Sunday and then a mix of sun and clouds on Monday. Monday will bring chances of scattered showers and thunderstorms all day. Highs will start off in the 60’s, increasing to the 70’s and 80’s for Sunday and Monday. With the increased temperatures will come hotter and more humid air as well. Overnight lows will be in the 40’s and 50’s and then into the 60’s. Humidity will be moderate to high by Monday. Temperatures at the shore and on the water will be a few to ten degrees cooler by Monday. Water conditions will be mixed by day and location. In general all waters will be cautious on Saturday improving for Saturday Night, then borderline to cautious for Sunday and Monday. Rivers and bays will see some better conditions on Sunday and Monday, except the Delaware. Winds will be gustier on Saturday Day and all day Sunday, pushing 20 knots or more. Winds will settle for Monday, but seas will peak to 6 feet. The weekend will not be a wash, so check those conditions closer to actual float times. Checking conditions in person, receiving real time updates and checking buoy reports will help. Surf and beach conditions will be ok to good. Winds could be gustier on Saturday and Sunday with wave heights to 2-4 feet on average. Monday will see less winds, but higher surf to 3-6 feet possible. Water temperatures are steady or have dropped a degree or two with the cooler daily and overnight temperatures. All waters are still in the 50’s and lower 60’s with surf temperatures in the upper 50’s to low 60’s. UV Index will be High to Very High at 7-8/15.
A low pressure system will track south and east of the region Thursday Night and then out to sea Friday. A cold front will cross the region Friday Afternoon. High pressure will build in Saturday and remain through Sunday. Another low pressure system will move across the Great Plains States and into the Upper Great Lakes Region by Tuesday. Its associated fronts will affect our area Monday through the middle of next week.
The upcoming week will have chances of rain, mainly showers and/or thunderstorms. These will be on and off for most of the week, as warmer and more humid air makes a return. Highs will be in the 70’s, 80’s and even 90’s with overnight lows in the 50’s up to the mid 60’s. It is going to feel like Summer! Water, surf and beach conditions will be borderline to cautious for most of the rest of next week. There may be some windows of good conditions as well…need to get closer to next week.
Have a great Memorial Day Weekend and thanks for reading! Let’s not forget the real reason for Memorial Day. Thank you to all of those who have or are serving in the military and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and our freedoms!!
