A very mixed week for weather and higher winds causing higher seas on the water. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday Night will have chances of rain, showers and/or thunderstorms. Monday, Wednesday and Friday Night are more scattered in nature, however storms could be strong to even severe. Tuesday will be a more widely scattered to widespread rain and thunderstorm event. Thursday looks dry right now. Highs will start in the 70’s and 80’s before dropping back into the 60’s and 70’s. Humidity will be moderate to high, decreasing to more moderate at times later in the week. Overnight lows will range from the 50’s to the 60’s. Heavy rains from storms, could cause localized flooding and flash flooding, as has been seen in several areas last week and this weekend. Water conditions are all over the place and will vary by day, time and location. Overall, winds will be gusty 20-25 knots at times with seas 3-5 feet. There will be pockets of good conditions with less winds and lower seas and areas that may not see the gusts, but rather a steady 10-15 knots instead. However, the possibility of higher seas is possible most of the week. This is definitely a week to check conditions daily, from several sources and try and look at real time conditions via webcams, buoys, and/or live reports. As well, these conditions will not affect all boats and captains alike, so following up individually will make sense as well. Surf conditions will be ok to good. Gusty winds and rougher and higher surf are possible all week up to 3-5 feet. A Moderate Risk of Rip Currents is likely becoming Low as well. Conditions will not be unifishable, just not ideal and being aware of higher waves and rip currents will be important for safety. Water temperatures have warmed some into the upper 50’s and 60’s…some low 70’s in shallower waters. UV Index will range from Low to Very High this week.
A cold front has settled south across Northern Pennsylvania and Northern NJ late Sunday with areas of low pressure in Southern Pennsylvania and Eastern Ohio. This cold front and areas of low pressure will slowly move southeastward through the remainder of the forecast area Monday and Tuesday. High pressure will build southeastward behind for the middle and end of next week. This high will be followed by another cold front moving southeast into the region for next weekend.
Saturday and Sunday will have chances of showers and thunderstorms with temperatures and humidity increasing. Highs will be in the 70’s and 80’s with overnight lows in the 60’s. Water, surf and beach conditions will be cautious late Saturday into Sunday with conditions deteriorating throughout Saturday. Right now, winds could gust to 30 knots with seas to 10 feet.
Atlantic Tropical Weather, AKA Hurricane Season 2015 begins Monday and runs through the end of November. Everyone, regardless of location, should be aware of tropical weather risks and have a plan to put into action if needed. Right now, there is nothing in the Atlantic, but that can change at any time. Remember, it only takes 1!
Have a great week and thanks for reading!
