Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Tom and Suzanne Dean, along with their son, Thomas, and their daughter, Brenna, with her boyfriend, Brian, all from New Jersey chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL.   Today winds were out of the east at 5-10 mph and seas running 2-4 ft., temperatures in the high 80’s.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water by the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, FL, 1.8 miles from shore.  Tom advised me that he has a large group of people coming over for a fish fry tonight so he needed to catch plenty of good eating fish.

We started off trolling the reef with two plainers down and four surface baits.  As I zigged sagged across the reefs, ranging in depth of 80 ft. out to 200 ft. of water, the anglers took turn and caught three Kingfish.  I could see a color change forming offshore looking very enticing so I headed towards it.  For the past week I have been catching almost one Wahoo every day, so hopefully there would be one sitting in this color change.  I headed towards one of the artificial wrecks that was located a little bit off of the color change.  As I circled it, the plainer rod was hooked up – the rod tip bounced up and down and line exited off the reel; a good indication that it was a Wahoo at the end of the line.  Ten minutes later, Suzanne reeled in a good size Wahoo.  From there we trolled back to the reefs catching a total of seven Bonitos and one Barracuda.

With the sun baking down on the anglers, they all disappeared to cool down in the a/c salon on the ride back to the dock at Bahia Mar, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.  We ended up with plenty of good fish to feed the guests.
