7/9 Fluking - Holy Grail...(almost)
« on: July 10, 2015, 12:08:38 PM »
Had the pleasure of joining Bob aboard his Fluke-U for a day of Fluking yesterday.. Had lines in by about 0730... Tried various drifts over deep channel edges, flats, holes , etc.. but drew blanks pretty much all morning.. other than a couple shorts near the end of the outgoing..  about mid-day Bob put the 1st keeper in the boat in the form of a fat, delicious C-Bass..  TT^ shortly thereafter we got on a great looking current rip on a 30ish ft.  flat, and immediately found some life.. After a couple shorts, I got the bite we where looking for.. the one I been waiting 30+ years for... I knew right away from the violent bite, and heavy head shakes it was a good one.. after the tussle, we had one moment where it sniffed the net and dove for the bottom ..ripping drag.. and Bob and I peed a little.. cfzd  after having a look at it,  my legs had turned to jelly.. But it stayed buttoned.. I didn't feint,  and we quickly regrouped..and on the next pass Bob put it in the net smooth  as butter.. lots of whooping ensued..  msfsh Those of you who have fished with me likely know I've been semi-obsessed the last few years  with catching a true doormat, double digit Fluke.. I was pretty sure this was it.. a bit over 27"  and so fat i my hand wouldn't go half way around its tail.. but we had  no scale,  so in the cooler it went for later verification.. I spent the rest of the day in a state of giddiness.. despite the continued rather slow bite...and we continued to slug away until almost 4:30.. weeding through some shorts , but only adding 1 more keeper fluke to the box.. Back at the dock, I retrieved my Boga and weighed the fish.. I was only slightly disappointed to see the scale stop at about 9 1/2 Lbs..  fcp  Oh so close.. although in my book,  no cigar ..yet.. but  still a great fish.. my PB.. the 2nd PB in as many years fishing with Bob.. Thanks bro..we do seem to do damage together.. Anyhow, the bad news is .. the quest for the double digits continues.. the good news is.. the quest continues!!  chrz chrz

A well deserved fish Mark. Great job. You'll get the 10#er eventually. I'm still waiting for mine too.  TT^
