Quick trip today 11/13
« on: November 13, 2007, 03:37:18 PM »
Had a few free hours today.  Got a crew together (Bob Cole, Ralph and BobG)for a quick trolling trip. Got to the boat at about 10am.  Left the slip with a little drizzle coming down and fueled up.

Broke out of Shark River inlet and headed south.  Found the ocean almost dead flat.   Absolutely no bird play around.  We ran to Spring Lake and put two rods out.  Started fishing about 10:30.

Both rods were rigged with umbrellas with shads.  One rig had a Clark Spoon and the other had a shad as the trailers.
Trolled up a dozen or so bluefish and five short bass.  Most of the fish were caught on the Clark Spoon.  Man, you gotta love those things.  Seems they almost always outproduce anything else.

Kept three bluefish for a friend and released all other fish unharmed.

Back at the dock at 1pm.

I was out with Capt. Joe of the Irish Ayes today, along with Bob Cole and Ralph.  As Capt. Joe mentioned, it was a short trip but very productive, catching both bluesfish and short stripers.  We all got a big kick watching Ralph in his excitement as we were trolling.  Rather than hollering out, "Fish On", Ralph had his own saying which was simply, "Hey, hey, hey"!   Too funny.

I put it on the middle snap of an umbrella rig with about a three foot leader so it trails behind the shads that are on the umbrella arms.

You can use them alone trailing following a trolling weight to get them down some in the water column.

The action on them is irresistable to the fish.   TT^

I hopr this helps...
