Cold and dry air moves in this weekend bringing some gustier winds and building seas. Both days of the weekend will be dry. It will be breezy later on Saturday into Sunday. Highs will only be in the 30’s and 40’s with overnight lows in the teens to 30’s. This is the coldest sustained air of the season and will remain into the week. It will bring mainly cautious water conditions, however winds will only gust to 25 knots max and seas to 4 feet, so while cautious for most, other larger boats will not be affected. Small Craft Advisories are in effect until 1PM on Saturday. There is a chance of this being extended, as well. Some of the bays and ICW will have good conditions through Sunday Evening. Midshore to offshore waters will have winds to 30 knots and seas to 5 feet. Surf and beach conditions will be ok with gustier winds, but surf heights will be 2-4 on average. Water temperatures have dropped a degree or two, already with just a couple of days of cold nights. UV Index will be Low at 1-2/15.
High pressure will build eastward into the region on Friday Night and for the weekend. A strong cold front will then move south through the area on Monday. High pressure follows from the Great Lakes on Monday Night and moves over the Mid-Atlantic States during midweek. By the end of the week, an area of low pressure will begin to move northward toward the region.
A mostly dry week and a change from the status quo since Fall. Monday could see some chances of flurries statewide, with little to no accumulation. The rest of the week will be dry until Friday Night, when rain chances return. The bulk of the week will be sunny with a mix of clouds. Highs will be in the 20’s to 40’s with overnight lows in the teens to 30’s…quite the departure from the last few months. This will be the longest run of these colder temperatures this season.
Happy New Year and have a great weekend and thanks for reading!
