The unsettled pattern continues with cold temperatures and chances of snow this week causing cautious to hazardous water conditions most of the week. Monday and Tuesday will be mainly dry, with the exception of some flurries possible across northern parts of the state. Wednesday will bring some chances of snow showers at night, followed by dry conditions on Thursday. A Winter Storm with accumulating snow is likely for Friday and carrying over into Saturday Morning. It is too early to talk how much or any other details, but the chance of accumulating snow statewide is from 40%-80%, which is high this early in the forecast process. Very cold air will be in place for the week as well, with most high temperatures in the 20’s for the first half of the week, then into the 30’s by midweek and to end the week. Overnight lows will only be in the teens to 20’s with some low 30’s at the shore. The start of the week will see low teens across much of the state overnight. Windy conditions will move in for Sunday Night and persist through Tuesday, making wind chills much colder than the already low highs. Water conditions will be cautious to hazardous for Monday becoming hazardous and then cautious to hazardous for Tuesday for all waters. Gale Warnings and Small Craft Advisories will be in effect as winds gust to 45 knots and seas will push 15 feet offshore. The only saving factor is that winds will be mainly out of the west and not the east. Wednesday will have cautious conditions with some good conditions mixed in for the night for rivers and bays. Thursday will see borderline to cautious conditions on ocean waters and good conditions on rivers and bays. Friday will see good conditions to start, followed by cautious conditions becoming hazardous late. Friday Afternoon into the overnight could see Gale Warnings again and definitely Small Craft Advisories. These conditions will persist through Saturday. Surf and beach conditions will be cautious to start the week with winds to 45 knots and wave heights 2-5 feet. By Wednesday wave heights will be back to 2-4 feet with winds 10-15 knots, then 1-3 feet for Thursday and early Friday before increasing to 4-8 feet as winds increase to 30+ knots. Water temperatures are steady in the 40’s. UV Index will be Low to Moderate at 0-3/15.
Rapidly intensifying low pressure off the Mid-Atlantic Coast will move out to sea on Sunday Night with a blustery, much colder, northwest flow to follow for Monday and Tuesday. High pressure will reach the East Coast on Wednesday. A weak cold front may move south across the area on Wednesday Night. Then, a developing Winter Storm in the low Mississippi Valley on Thursday will reach the Mid Atlantic Coast late Friday. This, then moves out to sea sometime on Saturday. High pressure follows for Sunday.
The weekend will have snow chances on Saturday Day, clearing out for Saturday Night and Sunday. Highs will be in the 30’s with overnight lows in the teens to 20’s. Water, surf and beach conditions will be hazardous to cautious on Saturday with improvement for Sunday; how much improvement will greatly depend on how fast the Winter Storm moves out on Friday and Saturday.
Have a great week and thanks for reading!
