A very active week with a tumultuous start and then Arctic air moving in making for a cold ending. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday will have chances of snow, likely less than an inch to 4 inches or snow accumulation over the next 3 days. Check out the latest Winter Storm/Coastal Storm thread at
NJSWF Coastal Storm. Highs for the start of the week will be in the 30’s and 40’s with overnight lows in the 20’s to 30’s. Wednesday Night will see low pressure leaving and high pressure beginning to move in. This Arctic High Pressure will bring the coldest air of the season to the areas. Luckily, it will also bring stable and dry conditions with a mix of sun and clouds. Highs for Thursday through the weekend will not get much above freezing with overnight lows in the single digits to teens. Any winds will make wind chills even colder. Coastal flooding will be a concern on Monday through Wednesday with the glancing coastal storms. These threats will also be updated in the storm thread. Water conditions will be mostly cautious to hazardous with winds to 40 knots and seas 10-15 feet. Some inshore and rivers and bays will have borderline conditions towards the start and end of the week. Small Craft Advisories and possibly Gale Warnings are likely this week. Surf conditions will be cautious as well with winds to 40 knots and surf heights to 13 feet. Beach conditions are likely still not back to normal in all areas from the last Nor’Easter. This week’s storms could cause additional high tides and beach erosion, causing continued hazardous conditions. Water temperatures are steady in the 30’s and 40’s, however these will drop by the end of next weekend. UV Index will be Low to Moderate at 0-4/15.
Low pressure off the Southeastern United States will rapidly strengthen as it moves northeastward to the Canadian Maritimes through Monday Night. Another low pressure system is forecast to develop near the Mid-Atlantic Coast Monday Night into Tuesday. Behind these two lows, Arctic High Pressure will then build into the Central Portion of the Nation around midweek and work its way toward the East Coast by the weekend.
The weekend weather looks dry, with a mix of sun and clouds, but cold. This will be the coldest air of the season, with highs in the teens and 20’s and overnight lows in the single digits to teens. Any wind, will make wind chills in the single to negative digits! Water, surf and beach conditions will continue to be cautious to hazardous with gusty winds to 35 knots, however seas look to be below 6 feet, closer to 3-4 foot averages, with mostly northwest winds.
Have a great week and thanks for reading!
