Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Topshotfishing and Capt. Zsak
Bryan Gonzales, and friends, J.D. Cantu, Tony Pinto and Cleo Segovia from Texas chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The anglers escaped the hot and humid temperatures in Texas to enjoy the comfortable weather here in Fort Lauderdale, FL – Ha Ha. Winds were out of the east at 7 mph with blue skies and temperatures in the mid 90’s. As the anglers were welcomed aboard the boat by the Topshotfishing Team, the question arose as to what type of fish would they be interested in catching, and their response was, “eating fish for dinner.”
Fifteen/twenty minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. If you venture off another ¼ of a mile, you will find yourself in 500 ft. of water due to the extreme drop off in Fort Lauderdale. We put down two #8 plainers – one with a 3 ½ blue reflector drone spoon and the other with a blue and white sea witch in front of a double hooked Bonitos strips. For surface baits we went with four Bonito strips. As we trolled the reefs ranging from 75 ft. out to 200 ft. of water, all the anglers took turns bring in their catch and taking videos of the event.
It was J.D.’s turn next when the center rigger was hooked up. Looking into the sun I could see a good size splash and wondered what this fish would be. It did not take too long to decipher the species – a Sailfish – as he jumped out of the water, tail-walking and doing 360 ° turns. After a twenty-five minute battle, Dave, our mate, wired the Sailfish. Pictures were taken and the Sailfish was released to fight again. There was a radiant smile on J.D.’s face after bringing in his catch.
From there we did some Snapper fishing to fulfill their dinner order. The anglers took turns and brought in 12 Snappers for their dinner.
With a total catch of four Barracudas, twelve Bonito’s, twelve Snappers and one Sailfish, it was time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and really enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar located at 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
