Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Topshotfishing and Capt. Zsak
Hicks Winters from Washington DC along with 4 of his associates from LafargeHolcim chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale. As the group boarded the boat and were welcomed by the Topshotfishing team, the question was asked, “What would you like to catch on this fishing trip?”, and Hicks responded, “Some Mahi-mahi’s.”
Twenty minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. We started off trolling with two #8 plainers down – both with sea witches and double hooked Bonito strips behind them. For surface baits, we went with two Ballyhoos and two Bonito strips.
Half of the group were avid fishermen who have spent time Marlin fishing in the Bahamas. As we zigged-zagged in and out of the reefs, the anglers took turns bringing in four Kingfish. From there I could see a color change with sargassum weeds offshore so I headed out to the color change that was located in 450 ft. of water. We trolled the edge of the color change and the anglers caught five Mahi-mahi’s and one Black Fin Tuna.
With mission accomplished, it was now time to head back to the dock at Bahia Bar located at 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock.
