A rough start to the week with hazardous and cautious water conditions most of the week. Let’s start off with Sunday Night through Tuesday, as a strong coastal storm (Nor’Easter) moves along the coast. Heavy rains along with snow/wintry mix/ice for extreme northwestern areas of the state will begin late Sunday, continue through Monday and end midday on Tuesday. In addition to heavy rains, at times, winds to 60 MPH, minor to moderate coastal flooding, high seas, rough surf, and beach erosion will all be likely. This storm will bring water conditions that are hazardous with winds to 60 knots and seas to 18 feet! High Wind Warnings, Hurricane Force Wind Warnings, Coastal Flood Advisories, Winter Storm Advisories, Watches, and Warnings, Storm Warnings, and Gale Warnings have all been posted for our area. Flooding will be minor to moderate with most areas seeing 2-4 feet of water, but levels at or just below High Astronomical Tide (HAT). This will cause low lying coastal areas and roads to become flooded, mainly during high tides. By Wednesday conditions will be dry and remain dry through the weekend. Highs will be in the 30’s to 50’s with overnight lows in the 20’s to 40’s. Water conditions will remain cautious all week with winds to 20 knots and seas to 6 feet. Water temperatures are steady. UV Index will be Low to Moderate at 0-3/15.

Weather Briefings from NWS Philadelphia and New York City are linked below.

NWS New York City Weather Briefing

Low pressure over the Southern Plains will strengthen as it tracks northeastward along a stationary front today and tonight. This low will reach the central Appalachians by Monday morning before redeveloping off the North Carolina coast Monday afternoon. The
coastal low is then forecast to move slowly northward up the Mid-Atlantic coast Monday night before eventually turning northeastward toward Nantucket late Tuesday. Several weak disturbances may impact the region late in the week. An upper trough will amplify over the Eastern United States by next weekend.

The weekend looks to be dry with highs in the 30’s and 40’s and lows in the 20’s and 30’s. Water, surf and beach conditions will be borderline to cautious, however good conditions are very possible.

Have a great week and thanks for reading!
