Jigging on the Gambler 12/11
« on: December 11, 2007, 10:36:50 PM »
Well, the Gambler got out today with about 15 fares.  Headed way up to the Sandy Hook area again.  Didn't even stop for some drifts along the way.  The early morning was a very slow pick, with an occasional fish here and there.  The fishing got much better as the day wore on.  By early afternoon the bite was pretty consistent as long as we stayed with the schools.

All this talk about 30 lb. fish must have scared them away for us.  Although there were plenty of schoolies boated today, there were only three keepers taken.

The butterflies worked today, but many fish were caught on Krocs and plain old diamond jigs.  Mate Brian took everyone to school as he broke out the captain's rod and proceeded to catch one after another on an Ava 47. ;)

We also had a "celebrity" sighting.  Mate John pointed out fishing writer Captain Al Ristori fishing on a boat named Marlin.  He was right in the middle of the birds. grtn

Sorry for the late report, but this is the first chance I had to post.

At any rate, if I were you, I'd jump on that boat tomorrow.  Something tells me that since I fished on it today, and I've got to work tomorrow, the 30 pounders should be hitting every jig in sight! ;D
