Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat and Capt. Zsak
Tony Phifer and his wife, along with their son, Dawson, their daughter, and their friend, Tyley Wilter, all from Indiana chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, at Bahia Mar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316.
Twenty minutes after leaving the dock, we were at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale in 120 ft. of water, 1.8 miles from shore. If you venture off another ¼ of a mile, you will find yourself in 500 ft. of water due to our extreme drop off located very close to our in-shore. We trolled two bug lines looking for small Bonitos (Bullets) to be used for live bait. With a half a dozen of live Goggle Eyes in the well and six Bullets, I went out to one of our very productive wrecks in Fort Lauderdale located in 220 ft. of water. We dropped a live Bullet on the wreck and in a blink of an eye, the rod tip bent over. Hooked up!!! Dawson hopped into the fighting chair to do battle and have fun. After twenty minutes of the line going in and out, the fish pulled the hook.
We reset over the wreck again and put down another live Bullet. As young Dawson was catching his breath, the rod bent over again – hooked up!! This time the fish went into the wreck, frayed the line and broke off.
There was a color change forming in 310 ft. of water so I went out to the color change to try our luck with flying the kite. We put out two kites with two live Goggle Eyes from each kite, and one Shark bait on the bottom, while the Phifers were discussing how much fun they were having here in South Florida. Sailfish left short!!!! Sailfish right short!!! A double header!!! The first Sailfish lost interest in the bait but the second Sailfish decided to feed. Hooked up!!! The Sailfish came out of the water and the sun glistened down reflecting its beautiful color – Beautiful creature!!! Dawson was the angler and hopped into the fighting chair with a positive mind. You can do it, Dawson – hang in there!!! The battle went on, the line went in and out and after a forty-five minute battle, Dave, our mate, wired the Sailfish in for picture taking – the Sailfish was tagged and released to fight again. Congratulation, Dawson, on a job well done
It was time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Mar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316, while watching the plasma TV.
