Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat and Capt. Zsak

Steve Peacock, Bob Gotman and John Murphy all from Jacksonville, FL chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  John conversed with me back and forth on deciding what day to go and what type of fishing he was interested in.  When the anglers boarded the boat, they were greeted by the Top Shot Sportfishing team and advised us that they were interested in catching a Sailfish.

On our way out we stopped to purchase a dozen live Goggle Eyes to be used later in the charter.  Fifteen minutes later, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore.  We started trolling with two #8 plainers down – one with a 3 ½ blue reflector drone spoon and the other with a pink and blue sea witch in front of a double hooked Bonito strip.  We had four Bonito strips for surface bait.

All of a sudden we got a double header strike which ended up being a couple of 30 pound Blackfin Tunas.  Bob and John were the anglers.  Dave, our mate, gaffed the Tunas and put them in the fishbox.  We continued fishing and ended up catching a good size Kingfish.

Next we decided to do some kite fishing in 130 ft. of water close to a wreck.  We put out two kites with two live Goggle Eyes from each kite.  Our next catch was a another Kingfish on the right long, which was reeled in, gaffed and put in the fishbox – its weight was 34 lbs.

From there we reset the kites close to the wreck again.  This time a Sailfish made its appearance on the left long - bill and dorsal out of the water, chasing the live Goggle Eye.  Hooked up!!!  Sailfish on!!  He exited the water and tail-walked towards the boat, putting on a fantastic show.  John was our angler and hopped into the fighting chair to enjoy the challenge.  After a 25 minute battle, Dave billed the Sailfish – pictures were taken, hook was removed and the Sailfish was released to fight again.  A job well done, John.

With mission accomplished, it was time to head back to the dock.   The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Mar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316, while watching the plasma TV.
