Gasoline could average $3.75 a gallon across the U.S. in a few months and diesel will be over the $4 mark, energy analysts said Wednesday.

Several factors point toward a nightmarish spring for motorists, they said, including persistently strong crude oil costs and the fact that the traditional December drop in pump prices didn't materialize.

"If anyone expects gas or diesel to be less than a new record, they are not thinking," said Fadel Gheit, senior energy analyst for Oppenheimer & Co. "There is no question it will be much higher than last year."

"I don't think we will see a typical spring surge, and we don't have to," Fadel said. "This spring you're going to see about 75 cents a gallon more from where they are now."

What sucks is marine fuel is .50-.75 more per gallon then auto fuel.

Its our own fault, no one wants wells off Florida or Natural gas well off NJ or wind powered generators, so I guess we will stay dependent on foreign countries to yank our chain.

Not to mention there hasn't been a new refinery built for decades and no one wants to rely on nuclear so I guess higher prices are inevitable.

Diesel fuel was always cheaper then Regular gas, now its the most expensive.  If oil prices rises a certain percentage, should all grades of gas rise equally.  If so, even though the gas prices rise, diesel should still be cheaper then the rest...  I have a diesel F350 and a Excursion..  The diesel gets better gas milage then the excursion, but the gas for the excursion is $.60 cheaper, so it all equals out.  There is no way around this problem.

This subject really get me going too.

Our dependence on a non-renewable, poluting energy source that we buy from foriegn countries who only want us dead is so foolish...oh, don't get me started. bngh

Seems that everyone wants to complain about the price of oil/gasoline.  If the prices weren't what they are the oil companies wouldn't be able to make their record profits every year.  Cut them a break! (he said in the most sarcastic voice he could muster up)

And I won't even mention that the president's family has been in the oil business for years.

I have to admit, I voted for George Bush. I did it knowing that any President who favors oil brings down our economy.  It may take some time, but it happens.  George Sr. did the same thing.  So why did I vote for him?  I guess in hindsight, I am a real jacka$$.  I forgot to mention, President Bush was supposed to be the education president.  So why are mortgages cheaper to obtain than school loans.  You can get a 30 year fixed mortgage for less than 7%.  A school loan............can be had for 8 to 9%.  I am sure getting an education.

Actually, mortgage rate as low as 5.5 %, not to add salt to the wound.  

The problem is, like anything else, once you lose it, it takes forever to get it back.. if at all..

fight for things we don't have, instead, now we have to fight for things we used to have.

Marine fuel also includes a road tax.  What is up with that!!! bngh  Just another way for them to get into our pockets.

George Bush or any President for that matter has NO control over the price of oil (which is determined on the open market and is set by supply, demand, OPEC collusion, market fear and specultors (whether covering short positions or going long on all the contracts.

george Bush also has ZERO effect on long term mortgage rates (and the FED has nothing to do with them either). That is controlled by the treasury markets (10 yr note affetcs 30 year mortgage etc)

Let's talk real world.  Policy makers make policy.  The direction that the US takes in a global economy is a direct result.  China didn't just happen overnight.  India's economic growth isn't any secret.  Policy impacts the markets.  Just ask Alan Greenspan. 

It's also no secret that our immigration policies protect Corporate America.........otherwise the average Joe would be making more money.  George Bush has done very little to stop illegal immigration. Why?

Why were tax laws passed early on in the Bush Administration providing incentives to purchase vehicles over 6000 lbs. knowing full well that these vehcicles average less than 12 mpg?  Not long after gas prices rose over $3 per gallon.  Now Mr Bush says we are addicted to oil and wants SUV's that get over 35 mpg.  Who benefits from these laws?  Surely not the Amercan people.

not really..in Poland they are about $1.70 American.

Are you sure that's the price per gallon?  I thought most European countries sell their gas per liter.

According to AA roadwatch a liter of regular unleaded is 1.12 Euro or  $1.60 per liter....comes to more than $6.00 per gallon...in any event, I don't think the Baltic has much to offer other than herring.  I'll stick to the waters off of NJ.

i think you guys are right. I was just talking to my grandpa and read this post so i asked him how much was gas and he said 4 euros so i just converted that to dollars forgetting that they use liters not gallons. my bad.
