Grouper, with over 400 species in the family is one of the largest fish families in the sea. Their habitat is wide spread:

Most grouper are excellent eating and offer the sportsman/woman a real challenge. In central Florida waters the most sought after species are, gag, red, snowy, and yellowedge.

Thanks for sharing Bob.  I always feel like I am on the boat with you while reading your stories and viewing the pictures. 

Any updates on the invasive "Lionfish" which you wrote last year were a big problem on the reefs in FL?

Thanks guys!  I try my best to give fellow anglers the feeling they are on the boat with me, wish they were!

Lion fish:  We are not seeing as many now as before. We are catching 1-2 a trip as opposed to 4-5. Now we have a new problem... Red snapper. Red snapper are very aggressive and tend to take over, take over at the expense of all other reef fishes. Red snapper are a welcomed edition, however, in many areas, do to being over-protected, there is little else. On the Florida Middle Grounds many areas that were very productive for grouper & Mangrove snapper now are home to few.
