Blackfish & Striper Report 12-30
« on: December 30, 2007, 08:33:39 PM »
My friend, Capt. Keith of Anticipation Charters, set up a trip with us for a few of his regular customers. After an early departure, we cruised up north and found some birds working in about 75 feet of water. The birds we scattered but the marks on the screen were all over the place. After about 5 minutes into the first drift, we had fish on. A steady pick of bass kept us busy for the first couple of hours into the trip. No keeper bass but we had our hands full with the schoolies. Around 0930 the bird flaked out as well as the bite.

After switching the gear over, we shot south to the same wreck we were on the previous trip that still had plenty of life. After a quick snag on the anchor, lines were dropped. Again it wasn't long before the fish started biting. We had a steady pick of fish for the rest of the trip. I bet we had 15-20 fish at 13 3/4 inches.
By the end of the trip, we tallied a shy dozen up to 6.5 pounds.
Leaving the house with out a camera, waiting on Capt. Keith for a few pictures.

Yeah, by the sounds of it, we did alright.. I was reading Young's report and compared to what we did, I feel better.  TT^

I am still having a bad spell with those figgin short stripers. I can get a bunch of fish but geez, where the heck are the 28+ fish... 5hrug

Can't wait till Delaware.. There is a HUGE catch report I am going to put up...

Seems the past couple of years it was tuff getting big bass in the fall/winter.  All the biggies are in the spring now a days.  It used to be the other way around.  Go figure.  5hrug

The Delaware trip is gonna be awesome.  I'm definately up for it.   t^

Capt, how much longer will you be running? Do you think the fishing will hold up? Looks like there's some mild weather later in the week...

Hi Joe,

I have to agree especially off the beach.  I seems like this spring I was getting larger and catching more frequently.  Their migration probably was closer to the beach where as the fall/ winter run they are further off shore and coming in closer off Del., Md. and Va.

I will be running right thru the winter for inshore tog and possibly mackeral.

I am not pulling the boat out of the water. I did all my "winter" maintenance in September.

I will run as long as the weather agrees with us and as long as we have customers! Late Jan &Feb might be  little slow but the boat will be there.
