Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat and Capt. Zsak

Steve and Sue Bayabirch and Gray and Nancy Gizinski chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team for a private deep sea charter boat sport fishing trip in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Fifteen to twenty minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore.   We started the morning trolling in 150 feet of water with our best spread of 4 surface lines which included three Ballyhoos and one surface chugger bait along with two deep planner lines with Bonita strips and a green sea witch in one and the other with a blue sea witch.  We started getting bites around the southern side of the sea buoy.  We had a northerly current and were trolling to the north of Fort Lauderdale, but we were not getting any bites. When we started heading back to the south of Fort Lauderdale at a slower speed, we started getting more bites. What also worked was heading from shallow water to deep water diagonally and then back to shallow water again.  This works especially good when we are working a group of fish.

The first fish we caught was a Black Fin Tuna, and we found him in 600 ft. of water.  We headed back into shallower waters, and started catching Kingfish with the average weight being 8 to 9 pounds.  Next, we headed out to deeper waters continuing to head south of Fort Lauderdale working the weed patches and searching for birds which will fly over schools of fish.  We arrived in an area with bait and live action on the surface with bait fish crashing and birds diving.  We set up a kite with three live baits from the kite and one dead bait on the surface.   I also put out one bait on the bottom using a circle hook with a Bonita cut in half.  We were set up and fishing for a very short amount of time when the bottom rod got a strike – it was a large Bull Shark.  Steve and Gary both fought the Shark, and brought the Bull Shark to the side of the boat.  Pictures were taken and the Bull Shark was released.

It was now time to head back to the dock.   The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
