Charles and his two sons, Chuck and Colin, from New Jersey chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team for a private deep-sea charter boat sport fishing trip in Fort Lauderdale, FL.  As they boarded the boat, they were greeted by Captain Zsak and mate, Dave, from the Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat Team.  We had nice weather today with clear skies and calm seas.

Fifteen to twenty minutes after leaving the dock, we were trolling in 100 feet of water.  Our spread of baits consisted of a few deep trolling baits and four surface baits.  I started working the area to the southeast of Fort Lauderdale, and we got bites early on the long deep planner line.  One of the boys jumped on the reel and started fighting the fish.  He got the fish up to the back of the boat and the mate wired the Kingfish, gaffed it along the transom and put the Kingfish in the fish box.

We continued trolling to the south hooking another group of Kingfish, getting bites on the silver and blue lures as well as the pink and white lures.  After a few double headers, the numbers in the box were growing.  I went over a few areas where the depth sounder marked a school of fish, and as we went over that school, we hooked a couple of Tunas on the surface lines.  The guys were having a good time and were ready to try for something bigger.

I went out to 300 feet of water with a knot of north current in greenish blue water - it was the ideal condition.  We set out two Kingfish heads and one Bonita.  After about 30 minutes, we had a big one eating the Bonita.  With the sound of the drag ripping off, we had a huge bite and the fish was on.  The guys started fighting this fish and took turns on the battle.  After this Shark took 4 big runs, these guys realized it was just getting started.  The fight lasted for 45 minutes, and we had the Hammerhead Shark to the back of the boat.  We carefully removed the hook and released this awesome fish.

It was time to head back to the dock after a killer day on the water.  The happy anglers retired into the a/c salon watching the plasma TV and enjoying the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
